I bought a M&P .22 that was not CA. compliant

I finally picked up my Ca. legal M&P 22 today. I forgot about it until my LGS called me today and said I had one day to get it or I'd have to do the paper work over again and pay $25.
Ca. law requires you to pick up your gun within 31 days or start everything over and wait 10 more days.
Now that's just funny. After all that you forgot about it.

About 3 days later the DOJ calls me and asks why left the store with the gun?
I gave them the into that was printed on the box.
***, I did right thing and returned it knowing it was illegal.
The DOJ are a bunch of idiots.

Yes you did, and yes, they are.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with CA laws, but how did the DOJ even know you returned the gun to the shop?

They probably didn't. What they did know is that the gun wasn't CA compliant. They got that info from the DROS. (Dealers Record Of Sale)

The owner probably told the DOJ they had returned the gun in their phone conversation.

Bill

They are making you wait another 10 days? That's crazy, the whole situation in CA is *****.

It's a different gun with a different serial number, just like buying another gun as far as the DOJ is concerned.

If it were me I would have just kept the gun. You're not a killer and weren't going to use the gun for anything illegal. The store would have sent the DOJ the number that was for the compliant gun and no one would have come looking for you.

You did nothing wrong. It was only by returning it that the DOJ got involved.

For the record, yes, CA laws suck.

The store told the DOJ to take the gun out of the customers name. I'm sure the DOJ asked, "Whyyy?" They said that in post #9 above.

Bill

CA is not the only state that is anti-gun friendly. CT, MA, NJ and NY are just as bad (I cant believe CO) joined either. Those (people) on the left coast have been causing problems for too many years. You would think they would have better things on their agenda than to 'harass' law abiding citizens and make ridiculous laws but allow the growing and selling of MJ? ***?

At least Colorado still has some sanity. Fifty-seven of the sixty-four sheriffs are suing the state.

"At a Friday news conference in Denver, (5/17,) sheriffs, disabled individuals and a woman's group said two new laws requiring universal background checks for gun buyers and restricting the size of high-capacity magazines violate the Second Amendment right to bear arms and the Fourteenth Amendment's prohibition against states denying individuals due process and equal protection under the law."

Want to hear crazy? Our AZ Governor dumped our ccw requirements. 21 and you are good to go. Stuff it in your pants and you are legal. How would you like to be a LEO in gangland Phoenix!

Your gangs must be very different than ours up here. Up here, they don't bother with CCW requirements. Heck, they don't even bother to buy through FFLs or complete 4473s.
