Attached are 2 documents I have when I bought my 1076 new on 10/30/91. I paid $550 back then.
Very interesting, thanks for sharing that. I hope you picked up a couple each of those 11 and 15 round magazines while they had them at a good price.

Its been my experience that the civilian-maket model 1076 automatics have the straight-line front grip enhancements while the LEO models have the checkered front grip enhancements. Perhaps I'm wrong but the ones I see at gunshows that have any PD markings or property numbers have the checkered front grip serrations while the straight line front grips are never LEO marked. It is perhaps my experience, but I see them enough around Georgia gunshows to notice the variance.
Apparently grooved and checkered front straps both
appeared on the actual FBI guns. See previous post
with factory letter pics for info on that stuff.

Learned that my agency was still ordering and receiving M1076's for a several years after they were officially discontinued.
They'd order 25-40 for incoming academies, mainly because the department was already so invested in 10mm ammo, mags, leather, etc.
Doing so, S&W continued to increase the price substantially until it no longer made sense to continue.
That's when it was replaced by the M4566 and CS45.
IIRC, the same uniform leather and mag pouches that worked for the 1076 worked fine with the 4566.
So - one day, people will run into some M1076's with s/n's that don't match up with 'official production' records I imagine.
Just curious, what 10mm ammo was your agency issuing back then for duty use/street patrol? ... And was that different from the 'training' or practice ammo?
Thanks.
I had a Virginia State Police turn in 1076 back in the mid 90's. Looked new, had the box and two or three mags and cost about a third what this one did. But at that time the only way for me to buy something new was to sell something I already had.
I did run across a 1076 recently that was laser engraved with a department name. It looked pretty good and the price was reasonable but it was on Armslist. There still seems to be about as many scams on there as legit listings.
I believe it was the Kentucky State Police that issued the 1076, not the Virginia State Police.
Guys, I was wondering if a part brakes while using a 1076, how would one go about getting a replacement part? Does SW still support these guns in warranty?
i did not buy any extended magazines back then. If I only knew back then what I know now.

No, nada, zip-ski.S&W probably still has a few parts for the model 1076.
Mostly recall parts, I would assume.
If there were any warranty consideration, it would likely be in the form of a credit towards a current model.
Parts for 3rd gens are getting harder to find, but Midway, Brownell's, and Numrich can still supply many.
No, nada, zip-ski.
S&W has no 3rd Gen parts in stock, and no longer services the 3rd Gen line of guns. Any remaining stock of 3rd Gen parts was shipped out to Numrich Corp. several years back.
Numrich may still have some, depending on which 3rd Gen parts you're looking for, but FYI, good luck on finding critical parts for the 45XX- & 10XX-series guns. Midway and Brownells have literally nothing for them.

Actually...he's right.
I've ordered 3rd Gen parts several times, over the last two years.
