i did a very painful thing yesterday

i sold 1 gun not sw and now i want to help my boy in collage. he says don't do it.he gets it that it's painful,so i say you are standup guy.i'm lookin and gettin ready.best wishes

As the others have said, you did the right thing, don't second guess yourself on that decision, I would have done the same thing in a heartbeat! Family, family, family.

I've had to sell two of my limited collection so far this year, and the wife's last day of work is next Friday... then it's waiting on the workman's comp (hopefully) settlement offer, and hope that's enough to tide us over till she can get disability... a lot of "maybe's" floating around at the present. Hang in there, hopefully times will turn around for you soon. In the meantime, hold tight to the thought that you have a true "family" that helps each other out in times of trouble, something that is seen less and less each day.

Been there, done that. Sold drums, guitars, amps, keyboards, and guns before. Consider your hobby's also being a source of readily liquidable assets in a pinch to be a blessing.

Stuff...they make stuff everyday.

Wouldn't you wonder about a guy who WOULDN'T do what you did in your situation?

Never love anything that can't love you back, brutha. There'll be more shootin' arns down the pike and you'll still have the fond memories of the ones you had. Take it from me.

Great outlook,

I recently sold off one of my guitars and made a $250 profit after about 15 years. With the profit I bought a line trimmer. The money I'm gonna save doing the lawn myself will pay off big time.(maybe heatstroke:rolleyes:)
It still stinks because I really liked that guitar.

Oh well,We do what we gotta do.

I'm doing the same thing right now. Wifes out of work for a month with back surgery and no short term disability. Gotta do what ya gotta do.....

You know I've had a few beers so I'll vent.

2001 my wife decides that after the birth of our son she will take off a year to help with his development. She's an RN and makes killer money.

Had to sell a 150 gun plus collection of Span Am, WW1 and WW2 long guns to keep us afloat. Most had been collected with my Dad starting at the age of 10. We're talking K98's, Enfields, 03 Springfields all with matching numbers, slings, bayonets, etc.

Move forward to 2003. Wife has gastric bypass surgery to get over her fatness from childbirth. Guess what?? Then goes the S&W collection. You know the really nice ones that the guys post pics of now on the forum. Like 38/44's with humpback hammers etc!! Total sold 46.

Then in 2007 she decides after losing all the weight, working out at the gym she leaves me for a 27 yr old semi pro football jock.

Put's me and my 7 yr old thru hell and back and continues to this day.

Please a couple guns to buy a fridge. You'll replace them. I think I'll break out the K32 and shoot pics of the now X wife... Sorry some how I just can't feel sorry.

hmx sorry to hear bro, man thats gota be hard to deal with, but look at it this way i lost 32 guns in a fire one time and didnt get a red cent for like others have said they are just things, but it is good to have things! but i think his point was he sold the only two guns he had.

You did the right thing. We do what we have to do for family and loved ones.

As many of you know, my wife recently passed away after 8 months of serious illness, not all of which was covered by insurance by a long way. To help cover out-of-pocket expenses I simply shut down my hobbies, always consolidated trips to save on gas and got really good at finding tasty bargains at the grocery store. Even with this effort, our savings took a beating. When a concerned colleague asked if I was struggling financially, I replied that money was not the issue, possibly losing my soul mate was a bigger problem. I would have said the same rich or broke.

Hopefully our buddy mg357 has a shotgun suitable for HD. Other wise that's the first concern. If that's taken care of I'd vote for a Ruger .22 auto, like a what are they 22/45? Cheap/fun to shoot and as a HD weapon is naught to be sneezed at.

Bruce, we should trade stories about wives and the financial havoc they can wreak.

What kind of gat are we going to come up with for mg357? Realistically speaking, what does he want? A .22 he can afford to shoot right now, or a .357 he can just fondle? If one or more of you who are on the fence about one of my 5" .500s will step up, I'll dig around for something decent to donate...
