At the gun club today we had a .38 Special competion. It was kinda fun with everyone shooting .38. It was run the same as our usual .22 Bullseye comp' at 25 yards with precision and rapid fire.

What was interesting is how accurate the calibre is. Similar competions using 9mm are nothing like it. I'm quite new to handgun shooting, and very new to using .38 Spl, but the Highway Patrolman 28-3 did OK, and by the end of the comp' I was shooting quite well.

Sounds like fun.

Are there any restrictions on sights (i.e. can you use red dots/scopes or is it strictly iron sights)?

Just iron sights. Some of the guys had S&W revolvers with full blown target grips and another guy had a Model 52, but most guns were things like 686s and a handful of 28-2s.

I think a caliber specific day at a gun club would be a great idea. One a month for the better known calibers. It would get out some safe queens not usually shot.
