A noble sentiment, depending. But I'm not sure I understood who you were talking about on the receiving end. People with none that need some? The question is some for what? I wouldn't give it away to someone who just wanted to shoot. To survive, yes, but to do the shooting that I'm not even doing because I don't want to deplete what I have and carry an Obama Paperweight, no. If we're in a gunfight and we have the same mags or whatever and you yell "I'm out!" then I'll consider it, but if you want to blow a Saturday afternoon with ammo I paid a buck a round for after a long search, probably not. I'm not cheap, I'm just not flush, so I'm saving. Not hoarding, saving.

The guys who took a grand to the gun store on Dec 15th and bought out all the .22 ammo with the express purpose of flipping it are the same guys who would sell clean drinking water after a hurricane for $50 or whatever. Sadly, they walk among us. These are not the guys who start auctions at retail and hope for the best -- that's honorable, and I hope they get prices through the roof.

Some dude on eBay bought a couple of new Milt Sparks rigs. He paid maybe $250 total, and he wants $300 each. Sure, he waited in 'line' and suffered like the rest of us, and yeah, maybe he's appealing to base instincts in people who have impulse control issues and should pay a 'cost' for that, but that kind of greed is what gives this country an underbelly.

I don't about the rest of you, but I have a problem with a LGS selling a gun for $100.00 more than list to a first time gun owner who wants to protect his family. After I watched this guy about to get ripped off, I asked to come away from the gun counter with me. I not going to mention the make of gun he was going to buy, but it was a piece of junk. I offered to sell him one of my Glocks for $ 50.00 less than what I paid for it 2 yrs ago. It was 9mm G26 Gen 4, which are selling for around $ 599.00 right now. I told him I sell it to him for $ 425.00 about $100.00 less than he was about to pay for piece of junk. He did not know the law in Louisiana and told me it be illegal. Good old media. I told him it was not illegal but he said he wanted to buy it the right way. So he went back to counter and filled out the paperwork and purchased the gun. He told the clerk he needed ammo, the clerk reached behind and put a box of 50 rounds of 9mm Gold Dot Hollow Points +P on the counter. The guy goes and pays for it and they ring up $69.95 for the ammo (that is BS). At this point his wife and three kids join him. I don't why I felt so bad, maybe because he had to ask his wife for more money to pay for the purchase, which he was still $ 50.00 short. The clerk took off the ammo and the guy now has a gun, well something like a gun and no ammo. Well, I walk out of gun shop behind them and when we got outside I asked what he was going to for ammo. He said I have to wait to get my next pay check. I told him and his family to follow me to my house and I can help you out, on the to my house we stopped at my normal LGS and the owner explained to him the law.

I guess I was blessed not hurting for money, so when we get to my house I gave him 100 rounds of Ranger Ts and 100 rounds of practice ammo. Now you can call me a real sucker, I sold him the Glock for $12.00. Ouch! He wanted to give me the gun he just bought, but I explain to him that would be illegal. That the first question on the paperwork you just filled out.

These term contracts automatically renewed unless the purchaser stepped in and either terminated or renegotiated. And I'm quite certain every contact said: READ THIS BEFORE YOU SIGN HERE.
Thousands of people signed the contracts and promptly forgot about them. The contracts renewed at the older, higher price and now the terms of the old contract are unappealing, but still binding. They're crying "foul" because "they forgot" and now don't want out to be held liable. Let me guess which side of that argument you're on.

Seriously, I'm on your side in this and I'm afraid there are way too many folks on this board who scream "I am not promoting social welfare and resent the implication" yet that is exactly what they are doing. They make comparisons to milk not realizing that the government oversight of the manufacture and distribution of milk is the very definition of a Socialist Program. As it should be.
For the record, I have never sold one round of ammunition but have given plenty away to friends and family. Coughed up a piece of brass or two as well. But I stand firmly on the side of the Capitalist in this, and always will.

Besides, just because there is ammo being sold for stupid high prices, doesn't mean you have to purchase it at that price.

I and several others have added substantial amounts of ammo to our cache while still paying pre-panic prices.

While I haven't paid any high prices yet it really doesn't matter. Prices will eventually catch up plus if I can buy ammo at lower prices you just dollar cost average and the prices moderate.

If you are sitting back and not adding ammo you may find yourself in a pickel later.

I just decided to buy at a certain price point.

So far it's worked well for me. Might take a little more time than just buying it at higher prices, but I can only spend a set amount each month and I try to maximize it to the fullest.

I know this LGS and they are hourly employees, I know that as fact. Regardless of that fact, you maybe right, I should of just let people do what they going to do. It will save money and I can buy more ammo. Sorry if I ruffled your feathers, I was just trying to help someone out as I also have and I have never considered it meddling? I can not even count how many times I been asked by a guy to help them pick out a gun or rifle or asked the pro or cons on a gun they wanted to buy, however the final choose is theirs, is that meddling? It is pretty much like anything else. Say for instance, silver or gold. They are traded bought and sold every day. It is used in virtually everything and there are people who collect silver/gold coins. So when the price fluctuates, quite often there are huge swings in price.
These swings get larger when there is governmental "scares" such as quantitative easing, unemployment, GDP, confiscation, or mass chaos. So, when silver or gold doubles, triples, or tanks like it has over time, is there someone to blame? Maybe, but I don't expect all the people who bought silver dollars for $1 to sell them to me for that. I expect to get them what the market is bearing. If I don't like the high prices, I look towards something else and hold off until the metals come down in price.
If you didn't have a lot of gold, silver, guns, or ammo before things go up in price, don't start pissing and moaning to everyone everywhere over and over again, it is just part of it. Learn a lesson not to take anything for granted.
I am not aiming this at anyone specific in this thread or forum, but the bitchers are everywhere and it gets really old to keep seeing hundreds of posts about it. When I see the outrageous prices I just laugh and go on. People need to realize that everything is based on demand and if you are always in the game, you will be more prepared. However, if you demand it only when it is the flavor of the week, you will always be the one to get caught with your pants down.

I am a brand new gun owner, 38 special model 64and a savage rifle - when I purchased both guns I was only able to secure a box of ammo for my 38. We have three gun stores and two sporting goods stores in town besides two wal marts. At each one I was told the only way I could purchase ammo that was not outrageous was to stand in line. I did it once - as I watched the first guy and his wife in line (I was 7) buy all the popular ammo bragging that they were going to sell it for twice what they paid for it. They brag that they go to each store in town and do the same thing. Others in line, including a shooting range employee expressed that this was part of the problem of no ammo available in town. The couple laughed and said they charge 2-3 times what they pay for each box. There was nothing left to purchase by the time I got to purchase my ammo. Wal mart is now diligently enforcing the three box rule which is helpful, but in our town 22lr is almost impossible to find, and Walmart rarely has it either. While I understand supply and demand and pricing, to knowingly week after week flaunt how you are going to make everyone pay is not right. I guess it takes all kinds and it is not my intent to whine, just voicing the frustrated opinion of a new gun owner. The good news is I have found a few boxes of 38 special, a little pricey, but I am going to practice with my new gun and keep at least 20 rounds for self defense. My savage rifle will have to wait for practice ammo, not paying ridiculous prices, if I have to use it as a bat instead of a rifle, that will work too...lol

I just sold 2 325 round boxes of 22 ammo to one of my son's friends parents. I sold it for $17 each, which is what I paid for it. I was over at their house to pick their son up, he was staying the weekend with us. His mom was talking about not finding any 22 ammo. The boy goes into his older brothers room and comes out with a box of 22 ammo. He tells me that this was all they had. I looked in the box. There were about 20 shells in there. I told them that I would sell them some. When I told them the amount of ammo and the price, they got really excited! His mom and dad thanked me repeatedly. I told them to ration it and not shoot it all at once. I told them whenever they see it for sale, they should stock up. They were really happy and I was glad to help them out.

In a gun shop, poking around, a younger man lead me aside after hearing me whine about 22 ammo and my target shooting desires. He said, do you have kids that want to shoot? Asked what guns I had, and quietly gave me his phone number. Met this man, bought over 350 rounds of loose but decent grade 22LR for 30 bucks. We exchanged stories and became friends. I now carry 2 - 50 round boxes of 22LR in my vehicle to do the same for others.

New to real guns, target and clay shooting (lovin both), and a brand new NRA member. Also, newly retired and happy, regardless of the ammo BS. I never knew the better times, but know enough to use wisdom and humbly enjoy.

The range where I shoot has been good to me. They have not had any .22 ammo for months, so I loaned them 1600 rounds of CCI mini mags that I was not using. It was gone in a day! They will replace it when their supplier starts shipping.

I see people that normally buy a box or two of ammo every year or so buying cases & cases of ammo. People that have never own a firearm buying one for the first time in their lives.
I figure 51% of them are getting exactly what they deserve.

I've been thru 3 or 4 ammo / reloading supply shortages. I shoot for a hobby and try to stay ahead of the curve on my supplies.
A lot of the time I supply ammo to the grandkids ,, son-in-laws ,, brothers, friends etc. ( thank goodness they aren't shooting with me as much as they use to)

I've even had folks want me to sell them a pound of powder or some bullets. Which I don't do. Some have even got a little upset with me.

Profiteering, Capitalist, if you don't like the prices, Don't buy it.
You can ask what ever price you want for something. If someone isn't willing to pay that price, then what are you going to do.

Hey, Old and Slow, to add a twist to your message about newbs... Bought a 10/22 12 years ago, sport shot occasionally, but not in 5 years. Recently took up clay shooting after an experienced relative introduction. Looked into a sporting shotgun, after getting hooked. Walked into a nightmare! Foolish yes, sorry yes, but not so stupid as too contribute to flippers profits. Looking back, the scoundrels were and are alive and well, moving in wherever they can gorge their greed and power with, the big O included. 20-25 yrs ago -energy wheeling, then -banks and real estate, followed by -gold and silver... now -ammo mongers that dont even own guns. Be smart... buy smart, research and wisdom pays. There are still some reasonable street sellers and retailers out there. Ammo stock is starting to pick up, in Michigan anyway. A big box sports store here this week got in and sold 50 boxes of 22LR Rem 525 count at $22/box. A one box limit kept it on their shelf for over a day. I missed by a few hours, but have ammased a decent 22LR supply of CCI , Win, and Rem, all at under 10 cents a round, for my 10/22, 22/45, and single six, and my son and I. Newbs can play smart too with a little toil, never too late. Buying high priced ammo is for sluggards. Peace Brother!
