Got laid off last week. The company I've been with for 39 years is going out of business.

I went, this morning to apply for unemployment. There were 24 of us in the room. After filling out the proper paperwork, we were asked to provide two forms of identification

I laid my drivers license and my concealed carry permit ( which has my photo on it ) on the table in front of me.

The guy came around collecting the forms and checking identification. He looked at my state issued carry permit and said, this is no good. The only thing this tells me is that you are a dangerous man.

I didn't want to start a confrontation. I simply told him, you've probably less to fear from me, than anyone else in this room.

To bad the state hires jerks like this to deal with people.........What should I have said?

I think your response was good.

"Bite me" would sure be an emotionally satisying response, but I think your calm "You probably have less to fear from me than anyone else in this room" is excellent. It projects the calm, mature, judicious attitude that is a credit to our community.

(Or, how about, "Was you born stupid or you been working on it, son?"

What do you expect from a hack state bureaucrat? Especially one who's very lively hood is derived from your, and several hundred thousand others just like yours efforts at being employed in the private, TAX PAYING, sector!
Douche'

Your response was best, but I'd have been tempted to ask him if he had pass a test or fail a test to get his job . . .

You should have told him that you need to speak with his supervisor. A Tennessee Handgun Permit IS concidered a valid form of identification as it is issued by a governing body. If it where not a valid form of ID then the state would have a lot of people (208,000 at last count) running around carrying a handgun illegally.

I agree with Onomea 100%, but seriously doubt I would have had such a mature response as I would have been in shock due to this fellow's ignorance...what a dipstick!

Class III is almost correct. You say, " I want to see your supervisor right now." Then let them know that your CCL is a much more affirmation of your identity than a simple driver's license.

"And the only thing your baseless accusation tells me is that you are arrogant, ignorant, insolent and incompetent.

Now get me your superior so that I may discuss your deficiencies with someone who can address them to my satisfaction."

How's that?

I agree with Class III, you should ask to see the supervisor and demanded a written apology from the individual and the agency. If they refuse, write the state attorney general and governors office and tell them what happened.
Don't put up with this type behavior.

The Smart-Axxed side of me would have said, "yeah, and I know where you live "

, the sane side would have been much like your response....

You were dealing with a libtard and should probably speak to its supervisor about the whole thing.
Of course the supervisor is probably going to to be another libtard. It's the way it is at my work.

snork, lib-Tard - my daughters made up a name for idiot females when they were young,
"Tard Girls" I imagine Lib-Tards growing up when company came up the walk they probably stuck their face against the front window to see who's coming "Window LIckers"

At the unemployment office they want your DL and SS card. Those are the two. We live in a society where we must anticipate institutional stupidity. We have inservices, continuing ed, mandatory training, and synergy meetings just to insure it. Joe
