... another hole in my head. For whatever reason that knowledge does not stop me from examining every K-22 I come across. Today on the way out of our local gun show (with nothing to show for my time, except for renewing some connections with fellow collectors), I saw a gentleman walking through the show with a blue S&W box tucked under his arm. Asking what it was, he replied "It's a model 18-3 22." After a quick examination and some back and forth on the price, it came home with me...:eek: I just can't seem to help myself. Do any of you have that problem???

Anyway, here are a few iPhone photos after I got it home, cleaned it and waxed it.

Yes, I suffer from the same malady. .22 Combat Masterpiece, Model 18’s are very hard for me to pass up; especially if they are like the one you just acquired. If it was under a $1,000 it would have come home with me.

It looks great Richard, congrats. As to suffering from that malady, indeed. A few years ago I was about to leave a Dallas gun show, a little frustrated with the lack of S&W revolvers, back when they were pretty good shows and held at the Dallas Market Hall. I'd spent three hours or more there and hadn't found a thing. On the way to the exit I bumped in to a guy with a decent, not great like yours, 18-3 and bought it. Didn't need it, already had a couple. On the way to the car I saw another guy heading in carrying another 18-3 and in nicer condition than the first one. Yup, that one went home with me too.

A few years ago I went to the Louisville Show. It looked like it was raining model 18's. It seemed like most of the walk arounds had one for sale in the $400-500 price range. I saw at least six sell, including the five screw pre 18 I got for $400.00. A friend asked me to look out for one for him while I was there and I actually bought, sold, and traded three before settling on the one I got and the one I got for him. During all the trading he and I came out with almost free model 18's. He wants me to go buying for him again but that was a fluke. I've never seen anything like that since. I've still got that 5 screw and will shoot it and a model 17 I have with my grand son tomorrow. He's 12 and loves that 17. It will be his one day.

The seller wanted $900, I wanted to pay $800 ... we settled on $847.:):D I was happy and he seemed happy too.:) One of the nice things about buying from a private seller at a show is no sales tax, no shipping and no transfer fee.

I have a 18-3, 4" in its original box and paperwork. Interesting, S&W was still calling them a .22 Combat Masterpiece in the owners manual. Ser. # 6K7374. Great shooter & I have a matching 15 to go with it.

I’d love to have that problem. I never run into anyone carrying anything worth buying. Hell I don’t even see them at dealers
