My 66th circle around the sun begins tomorrow and places me and my bride in Ohio's Phase 1B age classification to receive the shot. Governor expected to announce within next 2 weeks when Phase 1B is to begin.

Our daughter is an orthopedic surgeon doing a Fellowship at the Univ. of KS and is getting her first shot tomorrow so we're anxious to hear how it goes for her.

I need to add that..........

If you are already in the VA System you may want to call your Primary Care Clinic if they have not called you already and inquire about getting the vaccine. They likely also have a priority scale by witch they determine eligibility and it's another possibility for you being able to get the shot if you want it.

Congrats on receiving your vaccine. I would just like to have the experience of receiving a vaccine. When, where and how folks will know about it is a best kept secret here in cornfields & cows country.

As far as qualifiers for a vaccine, there are so many and so many exceptions (especially those that receive it 'just to let us common folks know that it is safe' ;) ) that it would be just as well to let it be first come, first served.

Same in Kaliforniastan. I'm 79, heart condition, triple bypass surgery, etc. i don't think it will be available to me until all the rich and powerful get it. Of course our governor was among the first. kaiser blew me off recently, said their staff people come first. In the meanwhile I'm looking at alternatives.

Wife and I had the Pfizer version earlier this week. Only reaction either of us had was a day of slightly sore arm at the injection site. I'm not a fan of all these shots but I figure "herd immunity" is the only way out of this insanity that is being inflicted on us. This is our contribution to achieving that goal.

I was at the VA here Tuesday for a pre physical blood draw and saw several signs stating that they would call when it was your turn. No need to register or make an appointment. Said everyone in the system. Now, I don't know if that is nation wide or regional. Will ask more Wed when I see the nurse prior to seeing the DR for semi annual check up

The Va distribution and allocation is different that the state to state wide allocation system

I will take it as soon as offered

BTW it is FDA approved????

A side note here. I had the virus early December, and took the Infusion Therapy - Anti body treatment.

I was notified by my Dr. office yesterday that there was a 3 month wait after the above treatment before I would be able to take the vaccine shot if I wanted it.

Between my own antibodies from having the virus, the Infusion Therapy, and the vaccine, I should have more antibodies in my body than red blood cells...

I saw the earlier post that was borderline anti-vaxxer, but I want to avoid any verboten political element
.

The two US approved vaccines are FDA approved. That said, they are approved are under an emergency use authorization, not the regular five-year +/- safety trials process. The EUA authority is why we have the vaccines in 2021, not late 2024, but either method would involve safety and efficacy reviews.

Instead of posting I'll informed speculation, suggest that interested person review the FDA EUA documents.

By the way, if you don't trust the US FDA, the Brits have approved the same vaccines, as has Canada, etc.

Its 95% effective against the initial strain of covid. It's on its 4th mutation and it's only about 70% effective on the 4th mutation.

Have not heard the 70% effectiveness figure. Not sure how they would calculate an effectiveness when there are two antigen drift viruses mixed in the general population with unknown proportions. Pfizer says they can't tell a difference yet for B.117 (UK). The B.1.351 (South African) is still relatively rare. The UK does more full blown genome study beyond basic PCR testing than the U.S. to identify antigen drift and new variants. All viruses drift if they survive long enough in the population. Historical performance of the influenza A vaccines has shown vaccine efficacy generally remains until there is a big jump in genomic makeup (antigen shift). This would be the real horror. There is even the possibility of a recombinant Covid-19/influenza A virus from a patient who had both at the same time to create a real monster.

All this horror from a 30 nM long bit of lifeless RNA that has no activity other than parasitic reproduction by invading healthy cells.

MrsB and I are scheduled for later this month. We are extremely fortunate to belong to a university based network of healthcare providers. Our primary care physician contacted us and facilitated scheduling through their very interactive web portal. We have no underlying health issues. Our state has set 65 as the age criteria for this phase (1B). I will report back on any side effects.

I have had two lung diseases in the past, both unrelated and both no longer active. I doctor with a specialist in Denver and a couple months ago had a conference call about this. I was told to NOT get in the front of the line for the vaccine, either one, until there was more data on how they work with people other than "normal, healthy" ones. I have not applied for anything and plan to just wait until I get some kind of green light. I know there is concern for women who are pregnant or who plan to become pregnant as there were no trials for people in that group.

My 80 year old mother lives in a duplex she bought in a senior independent living facility. There are duplexes, apartments, assisted living units, skilled nursing, memory unit, etc. You move in on one end still driving, and leave on the other end as Soylent Green without massive upheaval. Very nice place.

In any event, there's a couple hundred residents in the independent living units. Because it also houses a nursing home, all the residents were offered the vaccine, and my understanding is that most took it. No reports of adverse reactions, news of which would spread like wildfire in that community.

I'm gonna wait, because I'm not an early adopter of anything, and I'm in good health. My daughter has a peanut allergy, and there've been some reports of anaphylactic reactions amongst those with peanut, shellfish, and other such real allergies, so she's gonna wait as well.

Guns, cars, electronic, and other things have all taught me to NOT purchase the first year of new products.

I will apply the same logic to the vaccine.

With guns, cars, etc, you'll still be around for second year production.
