I got up at 0530 this morning and found I had no water...not a drop. I take my five year old granddaughter to school on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday so my daughter won't be late for her 8 o'clock class. I was irked about the water and called the water guy. He said he thought he knew what it was. I enjoy the school thing with Kaylee. Most days I take her in the patrol car where she is "totally trapped" (it's what she tells other kids) in the back seat cage. It's on my way to work. Today I took her in my son's ragged old ex-power company truck wearing shorts and flip flops. I turned the airbag off as I belted her in. She liked that ride also. She seems proud of "Paw Paw" and insists that I walk her all the way (through a maze of hallways and buildings) to her kindergarten class. I get a lot of "gimme five" from the other little kids as I walk through the school. I called the office and told them I would be a few minutes late. I got home from the school and found almost warm water and was able to get ready for work.
As I neared the city limits I am passed by several PD units running code. They are headed to a bad wreck. I get there right after them. I hang around and help with traffic until they get some more people there. I'm late a little more. It's a one car accident. The car flipped going up an embankment and wrapped around a power pole with the roof of the car getting to the pole first. Two adults and a toddler are trapped inside. Other officers arrive as the traffic is a mess and I leave as wreckers and a crash truck from the fire department arrive. The people were still trapped as I left but they didn't need me anymore. I've got five minutes to get to court.
I get to court just in time to say "All Rise!" "Turn your cell phones off, and you in the back take off your cap." The docket was light this morning and and only one case took up any time. It was a divorce case and the lawyers were filing motions concerning property. The man in the case was identified as a tatoo artist. You could look at him and tell he was proud of his profession. He had lots of tats and I wondered if he did any of them himself or if he and someone he worked with took turns on each other. The woman was identified as a "nude model." I was trying to keep from going to sleep but suddenly for some reason I didn't have that problem anymore. She is very attractive. Her lawyer is a skirt chasing little weasel. I caught him during a break and told him "you're not charging her a fee are you?" He asked "how did you know?" "Because you didn't charge the pole dancer a fee two weeks ago." "You knew about that, huh?" The case was continued and I left to go patrol.
I turned on my radio as I left the court house and heard units being dispatched to the hospital ER. There was a large fight of some kind going on in the parking lot. Before I could head that way someone radiod that they had it under control and several people were in custody. I ate lunch with one of the officers involved and he told me what happened. The fight involved people who knew the victims of the wreck. Apparently two different sides formed and they started fighting at the door of the ER. Lot's of racial slurs and a few fists were hurled at the officers. The driver of the car had been keeping a child for someone else. She got a call from another woman who was telling her some stuff about some man. This angered the woman and she put the child in her car unrestrained. Another adult also got in the car. According to the other adult, the driver was driving at a high rate of speed in a blind rage and was going to "kick some ass." As a result, the unrestrained child died in the wreck while the driver and the other adult passenger received less severe injuries. The driver was released from the hospital and has been booked with some type of homicide. Not sure which one yet. The toddler's mom was at work and his dad is in Iraq.
I heard dispatch give out a civil standby call. I was just getting in my car and after I heard who it was I kept my mouth shut so they wouldn't send me down there. It was Dr. E's ex girlfriend, who just happens to be the grandmother of his daughter. She was wanting to go to Dr. E's house to pick up the rest of her possessions. Dr. E officially broke up with her a few weeks ago while she was in rehab again by throwing most of her stuff in her mother's yard. We are required by state law to baby sit these things and being that I know both of them I didn't want to go there. I didn't hear any more out of it and went and patroled a problem area.
I had been patroling for an uneventful hour when we got a call about another wreck. This one was ours. I wasn't the primary officer so I helped with traffic. A drunk driver had crossed the centerline and hit a 16 year old female driver on her way home from school almost head on. Both vehicles were totaled. Both drivers were transported to the ER by ambulance. I could see the drunk staggering around in the road. For some reason they think if they go to the hospital they might avoid the DUI charge. It only adds to the costs. It was his third anyway, which is a felony. The young lady wasn't seriously hurt and should make a complete recovery. The drunk has serious problems. It takes three DUI's in five years to make a felony. It should be less than that. We got this wreck cleaned up in time for me to almost get home on time.
