Ice cream

A Rootbeer Float

aka...........a "black cow" in my neck of the woods.

when we were kids, my dad would bring home a quart of dad's old fashion root beer and some vanilla ice cream and we would sit and drool while he made us each a cool treat.

I have found floats made with Dr. Pepper or Cream Soda to be quite appealing-use vanilla ice cream. My mother told me the great uncle for whom I was named was fond of what was called in NYC at the time a "Broadway"-a chocolate soda with coffee ice cream.

Wow! Four major food groups in a glass: chocolate, sugar, fat and caffeine. That's practically the nutritional equal of Irish coffee, which has the fifth major food group (alcohol), but lacks chocolate.

I remember my dear grandfather loved root beer floats. He always called them Frostys. That name may have come from the days when my Dad had his own ice cream parlor and made his own ice cream.
