Ice Storm

I hear it's pretty bad south-east of my location(I'm about 45 miles NW of OKC). South east and south of OKC, the folks are catching hell I guess.

Not so bad where I'm at. Just sleet and rain, a bit accumulating on trees and powerlines. Supposed to just sleet and snow after dark, so I should be good unless the entire power grid collapses(Like last time!)

Folks were running around buying supplies and generators yesterday. I already had about anything we might need. I did buy a couple bottles of ketchup, and some TP....just in case!!!

I just talked to my sister in OKC. She said they have a few inches of snow with freezing rain and sleet.

That storm is heading our way. The weathermen/women/people are predicting anything from 1" to a foot, starting sometime tomorrow. Lows in the low teens on Sunday and Monday mornings.

Just praying that the power stays on.

I, along with many others, am very thankful for that nice sleet covering the yard. We were supposed to get much freezing rain with a good chance of power loss. That happened south of us within 35-40 miles. Downed trees, power poles and lines.
Glad I didn't have to use the generator fuel, batteries and water that I bought yesterday.

I feel for you guys that are getting the ice. We are just getting a bunch of snow here in the Wichita, Ks area. Hopefuly no one has to get out in this stuff. If you do, be careful.

Just got my 2010 MN license tags for my Jeep and it comes with a warning that the stickers will not adhere if the temperature is below -10F. I already knew that.

Up to 6" of snow, with some sleet mixed in, for Nashville by this time tomorrow. It's just not right.

We're getting the "second round" (according to Tulsa news) and it's now snowing. The streets were ok as of 10 am Friday morning, but there's ice on my lawn and trees. My newish fotenias are bending so I guess I'm going to go out to try to save them.

2000 homes were without power in Tulsa but most have it back on by now.

Lots of accidents yet Tulsa cops have something called "operation slick streets" where they don't respond to calls of mere fender benders. Be safe out there.

Glad I didn't have to use the generator fuel, batteries and water that I bought yesterday.

Back when we had Labradors and Wirehaired Pointing Griffons,
my wife and I joked that if it got too cold we would just throw
on another dog. Now we have two Miniature Foxterriors. I feel
for you folks.

I lived in Nashville when I was in college. First thing Nashvillians do when they hit ice is slam on the brakes. Body shops love it.

I delivered some material there and the guy receiving the material told me I'd better get out of dodge before it was to late so I did. I went to tucson to find Mr. Earp. No sign of him yet so maybe I'll cause some trouble and see if he shows up.

We've had all manner of nasty junk falling out of the sky today. Rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow. For the last few hours it seems to have settled on sleet.
Welcome to the sunny South.

My thankful for the sleet post was a little to soon. Last night we got about a half inch of ice and today about eight inches of snow. The thing that saved our power was a light wind, otherwise a bunch of limbs would have taken out the power lines. Some of the people just S/SW of us who lost power yesterday got more ice last night.

Heavey fast sticky snow this afternoon N of Chatt. turning to sleet/freezing rain. All necessary stockpiles are put up, we're ready here.
Quality reloading weather. Might can convince the Mrs. to generate a little extra body heat tonight, woo-hoo!

Just talked to my son in Choctaw OK. They have 8-9" of snow on top of their ice. I moved to GA to escape that nonsense!

I am about 75 miles South of Nashville, as the crow flies. We didn't get much snow, I'd say about 3 inches early today, the snowball-packing stuff - later we got and still getting sleet. With the promised single-digit temps tonight, it doesn't look good for driving by morning. Like the man says, if you don't absolutely have to go out tonight and tomorrow, just don't. Stay safe.

We've got about 5-6 inches of snow on the ground and it's still coming here in the central Ozarks. That's on top of the half inch of ice from last night. One thing about snow in the south, it usually don't last long.

We had a light dusting of snow last night and it was COLD, about 25 degrees. Today was shirtsleeves weather and the snow was all gone by noon. Typical El Paso blizzard.

I had the pleasure of having a scheduled police pistol qualification today. Before arriving at the range the rain had turned to a heavy driving sleet and icicles began to form on everything metal.

I even had icicles hang off of the bill on my ball cap!

It was just me and and my police chief, and in spite of the really crappy shooting weather we laughed our way thru it and kept saying it was really fun to be shooting in crappy weather. During the practice qual, every time I had a magazine change the empty dropped into icy/slushy water and I would pick it up later hoping that the GLOCK would still operate. As hoped, there were no malfs.

This kind of weather is really unusual for North Alabama but I'm really glad I had the chance to shoot under less-than-ideal conditions. I even managed to shoot a nearly perfect score. :)

When I moved here I thought I had seen the last of snow and ice!!!!!!

It's almost 1 AM and there is a good inch on the ground with a steady snowfall. It is supposed to snow all through the night to late Saturday evening. The prediction now is 8"-13".

The tractor battery has been charged, it is full of gas, and I've got the chains on and the scraper blade attached.

Fixing to go to bed and see what happens in the morning.

The crappy weather has moved up the I 44 corridor as usual. Strange thing is the temp is usually warmer in the Joplin, Springfield area but that is negated by the storm tract out of Oklahoma. It tends to travel west to east like it has a free pass on I 44. got far enough north to affect Lake of the Ozarks about 35 miles south west of Jefferson City. JC got about 2" and still and cold....so far....We don't need that stuff here Thank You. All in All we have had about five mild years of winter. i guess it is about time. My sister lives at the Villages in Orlando and it got down in the 20s. They just go into shock and awe...

Well, hopefully the worse is over. Here in the nothern suburbs of Nashville, we have about 3-4 inches. Arizona is looking better every day!

Just came in from feeding the mule, the donkey, and the barn cats.

The snow has about stopped and we only got 8". One of the predictions was 18". It was a pretty dry snow and shouldn't be too much trouble to clear the driveway. VDOT has been up and down the road several times and I don't live on a main road.

Last time we had much snow (December 18), it was a foot and it was wet. That didn't go away for a while. It got packed down and we didn't have a thaw for almost two weeks.

Temp is 24 degrees. Think I'll wait until tomorrow to fire up the tractor and do my clean-up.

Misty - it snows in Arizona too.

Well, hopefully the worse is over. Here in the nothern suburbs of Nashville, we have about 3-4 inches. Arizona is looking better every day!

Northern AZ, that is. When 49 of the 50 states have snow on the ground today, only Hawaii has no snow (today). At high altitudes, it can even snow there.

Maybe you can get ol' Al Gore to come over and help you shovel some of that "Global Warming" off your drive!
