If I had a few million extra dollars I would buy the rights from S&W to produce the third generation pistols. I would immediately put the 3913, 4013, CS9, CS45, CS40?, 457, 4003 and 6906 back into production. I am sure I am missing one or two you guys will tell me about. Pistol permit carriers everywhere would rejoice. (except for a few 20 somthing year old glock owners!)

THEN, I would have several engineers figure out how to replace the aluminum frames of the above pistols with polymer. That would save weight, costs and update the pistol line. The pistols of course would still work exactly the same and would take the original mags.

I would love to hear any of your ideas on my new imaginary business venture. You may all consider yourselves my technical consultants. May God bless our efforts and to Hades with striker fired pistols! Long live DA/SA 3rd Gens.

I'd like a 3906 with a rounded trigger guard and all 3rd Gen's with a frame mounted decocker option like the 1076.

As far as the frames go though, stick with alloy or steel, that's one reason why I like them.

I'd have to agree with scwv67. The reason why these pistols are popular is because they're not polymer!

No plastic, thank you. Alloy frames work for me.

I would make a notched hammer standard to provide a second strike capability. And I'd go to a second gen style backstrap in several sizes to allow a variety of stock options, both for appearance and to custom fit the grip.

If we're going to slab sided stocks, let's make them compatable with the 1911 stocks.

And as long as we're dreaming - oops, I mean consulting - how about a Melonite finish option.

I can't think of much else I'd tweak, except perhaps a melt and checkering option similar to what one of the forum members has done.

If only you could buy the rights to those guns for a few million...

I'd bet it's going to take many, many millions, and your sales will have to be hundreds of thousands of guns.

But if we got past that, I'd leave the metal frames as plastic will upset the feel, the balance and the reliability of the guns, and you'd have to completely redesign and retool every model.

What shocks me is shooters that haven't tried one of these third gens and they run around swearing that such-and-such gun is the greatest gun ever made.

Really? Try out a 4513TSW and then lets talk about how sweet you think your tupperware gun is...

I am kind of surprised by the resistance to a plastic framed 3rd generation line of pistols. I carry many of mine and 5 or so less ounces would be nice. 5903 - 29 oz. minus 5 is 24 ounces empty for a full sized 9mm. 6906 would go from 27 oz to 22 oz. A 3913 would go from 25 oz to 20 oz. a CS9 could go from 21 oz to 16 oz. What is not to like? I am not that wed to aluminum. If you guys don't get on the bandwagon, I am going to kick you out of my dream.

I do like the melonite suggestion. Hill Country can stay in my dream.

Decockers are okay too, scwv67 can stay too.

I also want a 14 or 15 round flush fitting Mec Gar magazine for my 6906, and an arched grip for the 3913, the area under the trigger guard corner smoothed, and the slide stop smoothed and radiused.

If you're gonna bring back the 3rd Gens, gotta have a 10xx in there. For what the 10xx go for compared to most other 3rd Gun guns, you know there is a market for them.

All very good ideas. However they turn out, please make them that it doesn't take two men and a pony to remove/install/drift the front and rear sight. The set screw in the Novak rear always makes me laugh. Where do they think it's going? Some you can't drift with a punch and hammer. So, my suggestion would be a different dovetail set-up for the sights and possibly a slightly more attractive rear adjustable sight.

I like my 6906 just the way it is, round trigger guard. Maybe do something with the grips. I use a hogue sleeve.

I'm sorry guys. I hate to be that dude who ruins the party , but there's a reason metal frame S&Ws aren't made anymore.

The modern gun buyer thinks a Glock 17 is "heavy", and considers the trigger pull "excessive" if it weighs more then 3lbs.These old school guns require some level of appreciation of craftsmanship plus real world shooting experience to honestly enjoy. Those attributes are not found frequently among my peers, who judge a gun based on how big the mag is and which Army tactical team uses it.

Well, since you would be rich and considerate of others, how about bringing out a 3" HB, RB, K frame with .22 LR and .22 magnum cylinders.

I like my 3953 just fine, but scandium or titanium parts might make it even better.

Since we're wishing, I'd like to have more options with grips for all the third generation guns - especially the CS models. I want slim wood grips of various configurations, woods, etc.

Oh - and also extended and threaded barrels as a factory option from our new factory.
