I'm thinking Harry might want to update his "Duty Gun" to an AMT .44 Automag - still keeping the shoulder rig though. Love the vent rib.

If they remade it today, Det. Callahan might be carrying a M&P 9mm. And it might be:

I know what you're thinking: "Did he fire 18 shots or only 17?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But being this is a M&P 9mm, the highest capacity polymer handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' . . . . "

I SERIOUSLY DOUBT THAT PEOPLE WOULD RUSH OUT TO BUY A .500 MAGNUM, THE WAY THEY SOUGHT OUT A M29 CLONE OF CLINT'S REVOLVER......

THE .500 IS JUST TOO MUCH GUN TO BE USEFUL TO THE AVERAGE SHOOTER, WHEREAS THE M29 IS VERY VERSATILE.......

In general, I agree even though I've been shooting the 500s for 15 yrs now. Useful??? In terms of what it was designed for, capably and authoritatively taking down anything that walks on earth, yes few use them for that.

But they're simply fun if you reload and are extremely accurate, accurate to the extent that 99.9% of those who shoot them can't exploit their accuracy.

Edited to remove an unfortunate remark regarding the poster's use of caps. I was informed of the reason for the use of all caps and wouldn't have commented had I known. My bad, my apologies. Don

As a new member, and the "rules" still fresh in my mind....I can't answer the question, accurately. It's modern day "hollywierd".....use your imagination as to what/how they would "trans"form Harry Callahan! memtb

NO OFFENSE TAKEN, DonD. I WAS UNAWARE OF YOUR REMARK, BUT I'M CERTAIN WHATEVER IT WAS, IT HAS BEEN SAID BEFORE......

THIS OL' SOLDIER OFFERS HIS SINCERE THANKS, TO WHOMEVER HAD MY SIX.......

In a recent interview with Clint Eastwood, he said that had the Springfield Armory Professional (FBI Gun) .45 ACP been available, Dirty Harry woulda used it.

Recent negotiations about resurrecting the Dirty Harry series, venture capitalists have conditioned funding upon Dirty Harry sporting an FBI Gun.

I made that up, just like fake news, but it should be true ;-)

I was in full panic mode until I read "I made that up, just like fake news, but it should be true ;-)".

The model 29 being so heavy, I often wondered how he could lug that around all day. Yes, I know he had a shoulder holster, but still!

I carry a 5" 629 full-underlug Classic .44mag every day, from pajamas-off until pajamas-on. In a homemade under-the-shirt cloth vertical shoulder holster. Conceals very well and is very comfortable. And I'm not a big guy: I've shrunk down to about 5' 9", and about 130 lbs.

He'd be carrying a S&W 500 with 8 3/8 inch barrel.

They'd have to change the script to read

I know what you're thinking: "Did he fire five shots or only four?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .500 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?
Laughing but i'll second that!

They already done that, in "Sudden Impact". Remember the scene where his buddy, Horace King (played by Albert Popwell) comes up on Harry doing some target practice and Harry was getting used to it? And at the end, he pops the Bad guy with it when Sondra Locke gets away from him.

The power level of the .44 magnum was impressive in that day , and seeing cop carry one was unheard of....

I had an uncle that carried a 629 as his duty weapon as a town cop. He was kind of the laughing stock among the other cops and even among our family though. Of course his attitude had a large part to do with it as well.

I think it would have a lot to do with the person who carried it.

If you're 5'6", 140lbs, and skinny...you clearly have a Napoleon complex and carry a huge gun to compensate.

If you're 6'6", 270lbs, and ripped...and can't lock the hammer back on a Model 10 because the webbing of your hand gets in the way...you just need to carry a .44 Magnum because that simply makes sense :D

Clint's son could play Dirty Harry today.

Clint looks really old in his new movie. Sad,

Being a LEO back in the day, I enjoyed the Dirty Harry series for their entertainment value. Nonetheless I couldn't help but laugh at the baffled expression he'd make when the "system failed" because it was (and still is) illegal to beat a confession out of a suspect.
