If they remade "Dirty Harry"

They might make it. I wouldn't see it. No matter what actor who probably knows nothing about firearms might carry. :)

I liked the remake of Lost In Space a lot, but I agree that some shows are best left as oldies.

He'd be carrying a S&W 500 with 8 3/8 inch barrel.

They'd have to change the script to read

I know what you're thinking: "Did he fire five shots or only four?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .500 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?

If they remade Dirty Harry today, Callahan would rip the producer's head off, stuff his 44 down the gaping neck and shoot him through the heart and set his head back on backwards.

I'm not a diehard .44 Magnum fan; in fact, I no longer handload or shoot the cartridge. However, those cartridges larger than the .44 Magnum likely will never have the mystique or appeal of the original big bore magnum.

Probably no longer movie material anyway.

I agree with those who say that "Dirty Harry" could never be remade true to the basic "tough cop triumphing over evil despite bureaucracy" message in today's crazy mixed-up world. :o

I agree that a remake would never live up to the original. I always thought a prequel to the original had some merit, exploring how young Callahan became Dirty Harry. His kid would be ideal for that part. If they did it right, I'm sure we would all like it, but it probably would not have great commercial success these days.

Political correctness is why most movie villains these days are aliens, monsters, or rich white guys. None but the last one work in a police drama, which is one reason we see so few of them in theaters.

The TV show Blue Bloods is always catching flak for breaking this "rule."

Don't get me wrong, I'm not pining for the movies where the white cops chased pimps and drug dealers of color around and blew them away. We got our fill of that trope in the 70s and 80s. But we need deep, interesting bad guys regardless of their skin tone and it's just not viable right now.

The 44 magnum was believable in Dirty Harry, but I'm have to call bull pucky on Harry carrying about a 500!

I always wanted to see a final Dirty Harry movie, where Harry has long since retired and a new case pops up using the same MO and DNA of one of his old solved cases.

Harry would come out of retirement for the case, solve it and tell the Mayor to (do one of many things he told superiors) and say I'm retired, you can't touch me and walk off.

Human beings are thin skinned, relatively light weight creatures. The large bore magnums tend to over penetrate, even with good hollowpoints.

The 115-145 grain bullets, going 1300ft/s - 1,450 ft/s with violent and rapid expansion (think a parachute), seems to really be the perfect storm for such thin skinned goblins.

Heck, the ISP back in the 70's and 80's loved the 115 gr. +p+ 9mm jhp @ 1300 ft/s. They never had any complaints, and it always seemed to result in spectacular stops of negative behavior.

And a 500 wielded/carried concealed by a thin model type female actress? Clint is not exactly petite and could make a large N frame seem like a realistic daily carry option...

I think it was the 4th "Resident Evil" movie that Milla Jovovich was packing 2 Model 500's, 4" barrel along with all the other Hardware she normally used in those movies and I thought she did quite well handling the 500's!!

Of course we're talking Hollywood, It's only a movie, and it's in the script..... ;)

But I STILL thought she done good!! ;) :D :D

Although a .460 the bid X frame worked for John Malkovich's character in Red. You just never know when you'll need to stop an RPG.

The X frame seems ridiculous to us as a police weapon since it's so much bigger than anything in use.

In 1971 lots of cops carried N frames. Not too many plainclothes detectives, sure...that was part of the charm :)

And Busting people for " Plastic Straw Possession " !!!!!!
Gary

Please tell me people aren't still doing that.
