If you could have only one gun (with slight twist)

Colt Cobra if not limited to current production, Ruger LCR if so limited.

IMHO most of what has been listed here as an alternative to J-frames are "full sized handguns". I've carried 39s, a 469, a Commander and a Colt Lawman .357 snub concealed, but none of them concealed as well as a J-frame or Colt D frame, which were intended for concealed carry.

In fact one winter I carried a 6" Colt Official Police concealed in a Border Patrol holster, but only because I was wearing a knee-length parka.

Shield 9mm. Slim, compact, reliable, great trigger, great sights, all around a great gun. I carry it daily and love it.

Plastic really only refers to Credit cards. Back before plastic guns I carried a Colt Combat commander in the small of my back with the shirt not tucked in.

It gave me that warm fussy protected feeling. I sort of think 8 big boy bullets might be enough for the average personal incident.

If I was still carrying undercover for duty it would be my Sig 229 in 40 S&W. 12 rounds.

To replace my 642? Because that is what we're really talking about - it is my sole little gun, unless my 3913 falls into that category. I might find a pocket or two it fits in, but ... Anyway. The Ruger LCR or LCP might do. The SIG P290RS is right there, and the Taurus M85 my dad has works well. So there are options. But I've carried that 642 for so long. It's just right, for most of the time.

Huh ! Like many in this thread , my normal "concealed" guns are nudging well into what would be considered full size gun if not fully there. Nor am I that warm and fuzzy about a JFrame as a sole gun on purpose .

But looking at this as discussing J Frame replacements specifically - SP101 . Those of you prefering a D frame Colt , or Taraus M85 will get no arguement , just a matter of personal preference. I reall, really like the Idea of the Charter .44spl Bulldog. If only the quality and durability matched the concept, I'd be on it and never look back.

MY 2 1/2" NO-DASH 686, CONVERTED TO A 7 SHOOTER @ S&W……...

Easy answer; being a po' boy, whatever else I can scare up in the safe that might do the job - a S&W Model 4516.

My everyday gun alternates between a G41 and my beloved G17. If I had to go small with no J-frame it would be XDs-.45 or whatever 3-inch .357 I picked up first.
