If You Could Only Own One... What Would You Choose?

As someone who did go down to only one handgun one rifle. (Kept the family guns, single shot 22 and shotgun). It was not what I expected. Sold python, 686, 1911s,1903s, garands ar15 m1 carbine. After much discussion with my wife I kept a model 67-1 and a very nice #4 Enfield. Why? It came down to guns she was comfortable and good with as well as I was. And in the case of the 67 frightfully good with. Things are now better and I've been rebuilding the collection but I've made a point to buy k frame revolvers for my 4 girls to learn to shoot, and own when they can. 2 model 15's, a model 19 snubby, a model 13 and a 64 and 65. I'm hoping one day they will take their kids shooting and pass them on.:)

OMG! Here we go again. More sleepless nights...but I'd go with my old LAPD duty revolver (M67 .38). Some things it doesn't do too well (concealed carry), but it can do most of what I need now...practice with cheap, available ammo and being a good house gun.

It would of been my 686, but then I bought my Model 25 Mountain Gun this past year in .45 Colt. It currently has the slight edge.

I should get my most recent purchase of a Pre-War Colt Official Police .38 Special back from a new re-nickel finish in a month or so. Depending on how it comes out, it has potential of being top dog.

It was the 240th one off the production line in 1943 with an original nickel finish. It is a sweet little revolver but the old nickel finish was worn off of about 15% of the frame. I paid very little for it. Cost of the new nickel finish and a Letter of Authenticity from Colt will bring my investment up to about half of it hopeful book value. Although, I don't sell my firearms.

Silver78; Well pilgrim if you mean one S&W revolver you are asking a lot.

My favorite one is a 27-2 3.5", I have others but common sense tells me that Gypsmjim is on a good track.

I guess I'd keep my 1950's K-22 Masterpiece and my Python.

No you can't! Remember you can only have 1.

If it is one I currently own, I would have to choose the 66.

If it could be one I do not own, it would be a nice 8-shot 627

I'd want my 629, and if 2 guns I'd add my Kobra Carry.

Done . . . R

IF I could only have 1 revolver I would get a 625 in 45LC and set it up to also take full moons and 45ACPs. I am a 6" barrel guy, but I would have to compromise here and go to a 4" so I could carry it instead of one of my 3" 44s

But, then I am never going to have a one gun limit.

As I have purchased a few guns recently after not doing so for several years I've thought of this question quite a bit. My answer is keep the 686-1 6" I've had since 1988.

brucev makes an excellent argument for the model 18 and thanks, Bruce, for reminding me to shoot mine more! But for a one and only, I think generally it makes sense to be a .357 due to price, availability and variety of ammo in both calibers, and stainless due to greater resistance to the elements, spills and sweat. For me personally, a round-butt K- or L-frame just feels best in my hand. I have 2 - 3" M65's and would be happy with either as a "one and only" as I have a slight preference for a 3" vs. 4" barrel, but really a round-butt 64, 65, 66, 681 or 686 in any barrel length would do.

If I could have only 1 S&W revolver it would no doubt be my model 19 4 inch. If I could only have one handgun? I've played this game a thousand times sittin' in deer blinds all across northern Michigan. The answer is always the same. Of the 50 or so hand guns I own there is one that is tops....
Sorry gang....

I am now down to one S&W revolver and as I carry every where,I chose to keep my 340PD,no lock.I shoot it well, light weight and I love the 13ozs. to carry. This is not the best choice for most, but I just need a protection firearm that I will always have on me.I live downtown and when I walk outside,it goes in my pocket. The 12 gauge is by the door.

Only one

Mine would have to be a Model 64 3" HB. For me perfect balance, carryability and utility. Or a mod 629 4" loaded with Buffalo bore 44spls.

My favorite would be a 3 in bbl model 66, and unfortunately I don't currently own one. Oh well, gives me something to look forward to.
