INSANITY

Since the mental institutions are either closed or cant keep anybody over 72 hours anymore they have to change the law to let us chain up our half baked relatives in the basement.

Speaking of Bushmaster, I live in Maine, and on my way into work this morning some moron on the radio brought up that the assault rifle "USED" was from Bushmaster, and up until last year they used to be made in Maine. As far as I am aware the "assault rifle" was NOT used in the attack.

The police said the AR was the weapon each victim was shot with and he then turned one of the pistols on himself.

My worst fear is that "doing everything possible in my power..." is code talk for the BATFE reclassifying so-called "semiautomatic assault rifles" as class III weapons requiring registration, tax, and if that is refused, requiring them to be turned in to the government.

Can't happen, you say? Remember the "Street Sweeper" shotguns?

This would turn millions of law-abiding Americans into criminals with the stroke of a pen. Gird your loins.

Cajunlawyer: perhaps you can answer this question, with all the politicians talking about "outlawing" "assault weapons", and confiscating them and magizines , how would the government seize private property without compensation?
Is it the 4th or 5th amendment that deals with this, and how have the courts dealt with similar issues? Just asking? Where the heck would they come up with the $$$, they (we) are bankrupt now.

When the "assault weapons ban" was passed in 1994, all existing "assault weapons" were exempt.

There's a clause in the Constitution, Article I, Section 9, (Clause 3) which states, "No bill of attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed." And this clause applies more specifically to criminal law.

Just a WAG, but whatever "assault weapons" are out there today, would have to remain legal. The Firearms Act of 1934, which created "Class III" weapons, could probably be amended, requiring registration, etc. And good luck with that. The Feds would never be able to confiscate the weapons, because no one knows where they all are, not even a fraction of them.

The down-side to any of this type legislation, is getting it through the House of Representatives. They're not in the mood, regardless the outcry from the left, to entertain any legislation. They also have two full years for things to cool down.

There's also the cost to implement. In 1934, there were relatively few fully automatic weapons. Today, there are millions of "assault weapons" out there, both in "A4", or similar configuration, and less "menacing-looking". There are also a lot out there being used in high power rifle competition, etc.

The folks who'll make a ton of money from this will be those who make traditional-looking stocks for AR's.

To paraphrase Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto - There will be an AR behind every blade of grass.

They also get clips and magazines mixed up too. Its those large capacity clips that caused this. Its magazines get it right you stupid reporters.

This kid stole the guns from his mom and killed everyone. Where and how does this effect the honest gun owners?

I never wanted an ar style weapon but if there going to banned that may change my mind.

This kid stole the guns from his mom and killed everyone.

Here lurks another elephant in the room that everybody has been skating around. If we believe what we see on TV and hear on the radio, the mother knew her son had mental issues. How come she did not secure her firearms so that he had no access?

I can answer my own question to a degree but it will be interesting to see what the membership has to say.

I have have two occasions in my extended family where a firearm was either removed from a household or a household did not purchase a one due to potential instability of a resident. In the first example it was the unstable one who came to me and said, "I've inherited this gun and I don't think it's a good idea that I keep it". We all agreed and I paid them for it.

Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday said that a Glock can fire 5 shots a second. Really? Of course they all call them automatic weapons. Bill O'Reily claims you can buy a bazooka or machine gun on line. They are all just talking heads.

Here blow someones mind

In CT "Assault Weapons" are banned. This is a relatively new gun and does not meet the requirements of assault weapon. If the ban were to be put back in place, this is exactly the gun you would buy in every state. So what effect would having a ban do?

Yes it does not have the most evil of all features a bayonet lug, flash hider or adjustable stock, big whoop.

I also bring up that drugs are illegal and we all know they cannot be had...

Just saw some toad on TV that said what makes the bushmaster particularly dangerous is because it has a pistol grip. WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT???
People that stupid should not be allowed to reproduce much less be on TV.

Guess we should ban hairdryers then.

The newsguy last night announced that the Glock 21 is for big game hunting. Do the talking heads write their own stories?

They are working up to try to go after all handguns if you pay attention.

Maybe now that closed and deleted thread from a year or so back on making guns from stuff at the Home Depot is not so far fetched.

The only water transmission line serving the City of Oneida, NY, and 11 water districts, about 20,000 customers, was exposed by high water flow resulting from Hurricane Irene scouring and deepening the creek bed in which it had been buried 75 years before. The result was to expose the water line to sudden catastrophic failure. The City studied the situation, engineers made recommendations, and the City fathers proposed a solution, a solution that required a bond referendum. 1,208 people voted against the bond, 40% of those who voted. The bond passed with 60 percent, but I was astounded that 1,208 people would vote against making a repair so they would have good water when they opened their faucet.

You can not go wrong betting on the fundamental stupidity of a frighteningly large percentage of the population.

Chuck Schumer and his compatriots know that all their best efforts at gun control will have little or no effect on the use of gun in crimes. They don't care about that. Their real goal is to eliminate the private ownership of firearms, thereby changing the equation upon which this country is based. That is, to shift sovereignty from the people to the government.

There are essays in the NYT opinion pages today discussing "high caliber" and "low caliber" firearms...

I have no idea what the terms are supposed to indicate. Well, straining to surmise here, I guess the high caliber firearms are supposed to be more dangerous....

This is a converted military surplus firearm. Am I in trouble?
