INTERNET SNUBBY MATCH

It looks like David R is rocking the Rastoff challenge....
Is it still open?

That might not be a bad snubby challenge, maybe mix some time constraints in there.

Surging past that last place goof. My bride's Ruger LCR is a puzzle to me. It's been said Practice makes Perfect. Well, I ran out of the wadcutters I'd loaded for her. Fed it some factory 130 gr. ball, and a few cylinders later, tired of the sting. Cannot imagine pushing +P thru this little devil...

:D

Somehow I missed this challenge. I went to the range last weekend and have my target in the garage. I will post pictures later of my efforts.

Otred does it again!

Peyton, if you have a target and gun to post, please do. We love pictures.

Otreb does it with 3.5"

We all get to practice the double tap which I think is a 9mm thing because you need two to make a 45 or because you have 17 rounds on tap.

Otreb, please send me your address for the Prize of 25 custom printed internet snubby match targets.

Lets cut it in half today.

For April, 5 shots at 5 yards.

Thanks to every one for playing.

David

April Match

Am I the only entry so far; shouldn't be too hard to beat. Boy am I rusty; haven't shot at all for almost a month and haven't competed in anything for several years. Best target, the first, is 5 shots at 5 yards from my elderly, 5 screw, 2 inch barrel, Military & Police. Just at one inch. The second target is the best I could do with my much beloved S&W 638; 1 1/2 inches. The 638 has better, wider sights, Spegel grips and a much lighter (Woolf rebound spring) trigger pull. I thought it would do better but had trouble with the sights; matte stainless doesn't show up well against anything; if the target is dark, the sight will be dark, and if the target is light the front sight will be light. I tried to combat this by putting a little white nail polish on the front sight but that just makes it almost impossible to see against a white target. The 638 shot larger groups because I couldn't hold the sight picture as accurately as I could with the M&P. Perhaps a coating of blaze orange is indicated. Does nail polish come in blaze orange?

The third target is not in the contest, but shows whoat a six inch barrel and target trigger in my 5 screw K-38 can do. Better eyes and a steadier hand (don't drink a quart of tea for breakfast as I did), could probably put them in one hole. Perhaps I could have done it myself.........about 55 years ago.

Incidently, the load was 3.2 grs of Winchester 231 behind the Hornady 148 gr HBWC. I seated it below the case mouth as I intended this lot to be for my S&W 52 automatic. For revolver use I'd have seated the bullets out a bit farther.

Oh, man! I have the transmission out of the Harley right now and it's eating both my time and my money up in spades.

Cyrano! I love your "elderly M&P"! Great shooting!

In a COLLOSAL bad move on my part, I sold a S&W 10-5. I regret it.

This is not an entry!

I'm getting back to the range with my wife's LCR this weekend. I HAVE to make friends with this thing.

Well... somebody has to surge into last place! :D

Couldn't beat Cyrano... but I made peace with this little Ruger of the wife's.

Cyrano came back from that shoot with a severe case of group shock. I went out to shoot but left my skills home. The K 38 should have shot all in one ragged hole at 5 yards, and the snubby groups a lot smaller than they were. I hadn't shot much for quite a while, and got real rusty. I've been trying to get to the range and shoot an assortment of pistols, slowly, for group. I think their size has come down somewhat. We'll see in the next snubby match. I also added a little more red nail polish to the front sight of the 638. Maybe I can see it now.

For May 7 yards from some kind of cover. 5 shots, reload, 5 shots standing. I do not care how many hands you use.

Be descriptive of the cover. Car door, kitchen table, tree...........

Most of all make it fun.

Well, sounds like fun. I'll have to get creative for the indoor range - perhaps a barricade made of chairs....

I've refrained from using these, as I thought they might not be in accord with the spirit of the match. One is a S&W 317, the other a Colt Banker's Special. Both are in 22 LR. Are 22s allowed in the snubby match?

Finally!

I finally got a good group out of the S&W 638. I think it's smaller than the group from the M&P, but it will take a more accurate instrument than I have to measure it. I couldn't get a good group from the S&W 317, even though I was shooting CCI Green Tabs in it. I have a Colt Banker's Special in 22; I'll have to try that.

Here's something I learned about shooting stainelss guns; matte stainless sights don't show up well against anything. Against light objects they're light, against dark objects they're dark. I finally painted my front sights with red nail polish and painted the rear facing parts of the rear sight with matte black nail polish (yes, to my surprise, they do make that color). It was a great improvement.

Also here's a photo of me shooting behind the 'barricade'.

A word about the targets: my printer doesn't like .jpg's. It prints only the top 1/3 of the target. I photographed the target with a digital camera and printed copies from the computer. They print a little smaller than the regular target, so if you enlarge them to the standard target dimensions, you'll enlarge the groups too, which are already quite large enough, thank you. I put the tape measure in the pictures for accurate measurement.

Tomorrow if it's not too windy, I'll shoot the May Tupperware match.

Can't wait for June's match.
