INTERNET SNUBBY MATCH

I went to the range this morning to shoot the match. I was getting some interesting looks when I moved the table out of the way and moved a chair into position and again when the target only went out 7 yards. I belong to a precision shooting club, no holster work at all allowed so I had no way to really shoot this match as David intended. BUT, I was there, so why not at least shoot something, so here is 7 yards, sitting in a chair, 2 hands, double action. I used my 2.5" Model 19-3. This is NOT my entry for this month's match, I really can't do it at my range.

I started shooting when I was 14 on my high school rifle team and that was 60 years ago. I've shot pistol competition most of those 60 years. In the 90's I had one leg toward Distinguished when I had to stop for awhile.
I shake too much to shoot competition these days but if I can use two hands, I can really keep the sights aligned.

Are these double action shots? A lot easier shooting with the hammer back. Maybe specify one way or the other. But you're right, very cool idea.

Well, the best I could do was 1.9 inches. I was shooting single action, sitting in a chair, with a bench in front of me to rest the revolver on. It was about as steady as shooting prone. I sure got a lesson in how a tiny difference in the sight picture will make a trenendous difference in point of impact 7 yeards away.

I shot both my M&P and 638. I really thought the 638 would turn in a smaller group; it has better and bigger sights, and the trigger pull is lighter, due to Woolf springs as the mainspring and rebound spring. The 638 shot consistent groups, while the M&P varied more in group size; one of its groups was 0.1 inch smaller than the 638.

I tried from laying on my right side in the grass two hand hold, right arm on the grass. I fired one when I was not quite ready.

Then not to be beat, I sat at a bench two hand hold single action.

reloading in the grass was not easy.

One more try, this time I shot from the prone position. Arms straight out in front of me making a triangle. Elbows on the ground, single action regular 44 speical loads.

If you do not think this is a snubby, no problem.

Thank you Stu. It was my Dads, He bought it new around 1985. It's a custom shop model. I measured the barrel, 2 15/16". Not going to fit in my ankle holster.

Remember, enter early, enter often.

Snubby match

Sounds like fun. I'll be out tomorrow. Sitting on the bench but unsupported shooting hands. With my 1949 M&P. You all are going to make me and my 68 year old eyes look bad:p But what the heck:o I'm going to use a version of the TAROMAN target:D:D

JayBird: yours looks a lot like mine, but with a lot more finish. Mine is SN C 137012. There are several pictures of it on this string. I get better scores with it than with my Model 638.

M&P snubbies

Cyrano: Truth be told; at "combat" distance of 5 to 7 yards, I shoot better off hand double action with this M&P ( from 1949) than any of my revolvers, except possibly a 15-3:)

The winner is Stu 1 ritter.

I think he followed the rules just fine and has by far the smallest group. Great shooting.

For January Match, Let's make it Fifty Feet, 10 shots DAO. One hand or two.

Enter early, enter often

Sunday morning at the range. 19-3 and 15-2. 19-3 is my entry this month with 4 1/16". I lost concentration with the 15-2, I do believe that is called a flyer :~) at 5 1/4". 50 ft. 2 hands, DA. I tried one handed.....won't even show that one.

Standard Loads, I may have to enter again. I had 25 rounds, so I shot 2 targets, the other one was 5 1/4". I fired the last 5 single action on a third target, that will be next months challenge.

Great shooting Stu!

David, a future suggestion. I was rummaging around my bookshelf and came up with the AMU manual and was reading about International Rapid Fire (5 rounds, 1 round into each of 5 silhouette targets at 25 meters in 4 seconds from the ready position)
and thought perhaps we could hang 3 targets at some reasonable close distance (like 7 yards) putting one round into each of the 3 each time we picked up the gun and perhaps shoot a series of 5. Just a thought. Here
is what the ISSF competition looks like Finals 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men - 2015 ISSF Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun World Cup in Gabala (AZE) - YouTube and fast forward to 7:30 and turn the sound off, they are live firing.

I haven't competed in a challenge in a while, but this is the result of shooting my latest J frame I purchased for pocket carry. The idea was to end playing musical holsters.

My 442 is still my favorite snubby shooter but the others do just fine.

Here's the best I could do: 6.9 inches. It looks like only 9 rounds but the lowest hole is a double. I hope to shoot better next month when we do the same distance but SA only.

I don't know what I have done to offend my pistol shooting skills but they seem to have deserted me.

I like Stu1ritter's idea of hanging several targets and shooting at them. Many years ago I shot the rapid fire match twice, using a S&W 41 in 22 LR. I didn't win anything, but the match was great fun. I don't know how we'd time it, or maybe it would be untimed. Perhaps some imaginative person can come up with something.

A few years ago I found a Hammerli/Walther Olympia. I really like shooting it, but I'm afraid it wouldn't qualify for this match.

Next month I and Cyrano agreed he would post the match. I am going to participate (I hope). He will also be the judge.

I have been trying to get back into one hand bullseye @ 50 feet. There are 2 teams around here. I have shot on them before.

That Hammerli looks good, but the last time I shot Bullseye it was a few years ago and I was the only oneon the line with iron sights. I even remember when dead batteries were not an allibi.

Keep shooting
David

One more try. I shot a couple Sporter rifle matches today. At the 50 foot range, I tried the snubby match again. First tartet I hit the holder splattering lead all over, so next target I held lower. This is what I could do.
10 Rounds DA two hands.

I was the only one there so I turned off the target lights and flew by laser. I could keep the dot in the black of the target and squeeze the trigger. Its tricky. I was resting my elbows on the table , not lookig at the revolver, only at the target. I think it needs new batteries, the dot was still dim. I fired 10 best and as fast as I could. The load was 4.5 WW231 and a 158 SWC. It felt controllable but snappy.

This target does not count for the match, I rested my elbows.

I had a box of wadcutters I was going to shoot, but decided this was enough.

Enter early enter often. :)
