INTERNET SNUBBY MATCH

Cyrano, that is a sweet looking pistol.

Today I shot the match and more.

Here are the victims.

Here is the range, kinda wet, I wore boots.

Here are the results after 12 shots. The first 6 were all misses, I kept holding lower. At shot #7, I held 1/2 bottle below the bottom and it went poof. Shots 8-12 were all hits.

I then put the 2 litre bottle of root beer at 50 yards and fired away at it. It was about the same, hold 1/2 bottle low. I was all around it, but could not hit it. I could see the hits in the water and it LOOKED like I was hitting behind the bottle. So after 7 shots, I stopped and moved on with my 17 cal rifle killing more of those water bottles.

David

Who ever said "I am out because we only have 50 feet", shoot it anyhow. The rules are flexible except one, have fun.

Edit: I have no picture of the gun. I used my S&W 637 with 158 grain +P painted lead SWC. I could bareley see the laser at my feet, so it was iron sights all the way. First 5 were double actoin because I was feeling cocky. The rest were single action. Paced off 25 yards.

June Snubby Match

Well, I gave the June Snubby Match a try today. As the first photo shows, 25 yards is a long way for a target the size of a .50 liter water bottle. The second photo shows the four snubbies I used, 10-5, 64-4, 60 and 442.

June Snubby Match

I fired 5 shots each target, at 25 yards, standing, two-handed unsupported with each model, firing double-action only. Did not get a hit on the bottle with the 442 or the 64-4. Hit 2 out of 5 with both mod 60 and 10-5. Tough challenge. Used my reloads of 158gr CPSWC over 4.4 gr Unique.

Cyrano gets the win with 11 shots.

For July, 10 shots, 5 yards weak hand only!

SA, DA, what ever works or what ever you have.

Gotcha! Weak hand? A win-win for me. I'm a hobbyist woodworker, and got my left hand in my jointer. Whacked up 2 fingers some, one badly. (1st woodworking accident I've had in 20 years... but entirely my fault)

I'll get to the range soon!

Anyway, I'm left handed. And although it's pretty well healed, still feels weird. So weak hand is fine!

It Ain't Easy

To quote from a movie I saw recently: it ain't easy. That hunk of strange feeling metal in my off hand wobbles around so much I can hardly keep up with the front sight. Practise rounds; first target: 5 rounds each from S&W 317 (22 LF), and 638 (38 Spl) strong hand, at 5 yds. Second target 5 rounds each, 317, 638 and 2" M&P, left hand, 5 yds. Quite a difference. I'll shoot some more practice, but I doubt I'll get much better. Interesting challenge, just difficult.

Sorry if I'm being misunderstood. These are practice targets only, with five round groups, not ten. I'll try to get out to the range later next week and shoot for score.

I gave it a shot and thought I would do a little better at such close range. I usually try to shoot a few cylinders or mags off hand when I'm at the range so I thought this would be easy. Wrong!
The S&W 637 Wyatt Deep Cover is what I have been carrying lately so it was a good choice. Even though the action is pretty slick, it is still DAO.

I hope to shoot this challenge a couple more times this month. It was a lot of fun and great practice. :D

Oh, jeez. Let me surge into last place here...

I cannot make friends with my wife's LCR. And as others have said- weak hand shooting is weird.

I was AWOL from the range last Monday, thought I would give this month's match a try. Actually, a number of tries. The first go round was with a Mod 10-5, Mod 60 and Mod 64-4.

The next go round was some better. Same guns, same load of 158 gr CP-SWC over 4.4 gr Unique.

Here's my submission, such as it is, for the July Snubby Match. Shot with my Model 638, measured with my ruler at 2.5 inches, but you probably have better measuring instruments than I. The range was empty when I got there, I must have just missed Oldnavymcpo. I was surprised at my results, first because my old M&P usually shoots better than the 638, and second because this was the last group I shot. I shot first the M&P, then the 638, then did it again. By the time I got to the fourth target, my left arm was tired from 30 previous shots offhand, but it turned out to be the best of the day. The load, incidently, was the H&G 150 gr wadcutter; #50, I think, ahead of 3.2 grs of W 231.

Now I'll clean my guns and wait for the August match. The 638 can go from a target pistol to my pocket companion, and the M&P can go on the wall to be admired for the stories it could tell.

I'm fresh out of snubbies. Sold my last one because I didn't think I would miss it. This thread is adding to my regret. Someone send me a no lock now so I can play too!
