INTERNET SNUBBY MATCH

Yeah, me to. I'm gonna have to run this a few more times and with my other snubb's, but I tell yah, that really was a group tightener. Next time I'll shoot the un-weighed first just in case that had anything to do with it.
But, a match is a match and as Mark Donahue put it, the Unfair Advantage.

Well, that was pretty interesting. The non-weighed bullets (right) varied at most by 1 grain total, 150.9 to 151.9 grains. The weighed were all exactly 151.8 grains. 2 hand hold, 50 feet. No ruler, no entry, just an experiment.

I'm surprised that it made such a difference. To be absolutely fair about it, it should be done several times, from a ransom rest. One group is an indication, but not quite conclusive.

Thanks for your efforts. :)

Thought I'd go out and see if I could hurt my wrist a bit with a couple of J frames. This months entry. Model 37 and 60-15. It is a lot easier shooting K frames ! ! !

Here's my entry for February: 5.1 inches. Maybe I took unfair advantage too: I finally realized that I had both a K-22 and a K 38 with Sile target grips. I put a set on the old M&P and they not only help my steadiness, but also don't make me jerk the trigger as much as I used to.

I was really surprised also. Next time from a rest. Probably should also check 1 grain and 2 grain variations to see what they do. It's a new project :~)

It might also help if you could shoot them in a target pistol: K 38 or Model 52. With the errors in aiming being smaller, the difference between the two groups would stand out more.

If you're of a mathematical turn of mind, you could compute the 'mean deviation', which is the average distance of the shots from the center of the group. I finally found out how to do it; it's a two stage process and time consuming, but uses data from each shot, not just the two widest shots in the group. (The number is a lot smaller, too, which helps my ego)

Cyrano, interesting thoughts. BUT. Yesterday I was casting some WC's and working on my casting techniques with what I have learned from this thread Consistency applied.

I was about 50 bullets into the session when I said to myself, "self, this isn't any fun, this is work". I had been casting and plotting my casts along the bell shaped curve to see how consistent I could get.

and I decided enough was enough as I am not shooting the Nationals, I'm just trying to enjoy my retirement. So, I have given up my quest for the ultimate bullet and just shooting whatever pops out of my molds. Really caught my attention yesterday. Rest of casting session, back to the old pour and dump technique, worked like a champ and I enjoyed the daylights out of it.

Stu, same here. I've been casting aboutg 400 bullets at a time, 100 casts from a 4 cavity H&G mould. I was running low on 38 WCs and wasn't looking forward to casting another batch. My LGS had a box of Hornady HBWCs, and I loaded those. A LOT easier. Now I need some more ammo and they're out of HBWCs, but have some on order for me.

I was a bullet caster for over 20 years. In handguns, a grain or two will not matter. I even have a 10 cavity steel H&G #050 wadcutter mold. I usually used my 6 cavity lee aluminum mold. I shot rifle and pistol cast bullets with some excellent results. Since lead levels kept going up and now I have chronic lead poison, I just buy, load and shoot. I quit casting around 2008 and still have a few thousand rifle bullets.

What is March match?

Sorry to hear about your lead poison problem. :( Does that slowly clear out, or is there something you can take to "metabolize" it away?

We have a winner for February!!

And it is David R with a group of 3.75 inches. Nice going, David, congratulations. And thanks to all the other participants; you all qualify as dangerous people to approach with a knife.

And for everybody: shoot early and often.

I'll have the March match posted soon. It will NOT involve 50 feet.

David: if you want to get rid of it, I'll give it a good home. My 4 cavity is just too slow. And I have an RCBS pot with a rest for it under the spout.

You Gotta Know When to Hold 'Em

Know when to fold 'em.
Know when to walk away.
Know when to run.

You're playing poker, five card stud, and the stakes are high. One player is cheating. When you call him out, he takes offense, stands and draws his pistol. You stand and draw yours. Both of you open fire.

MARCH SNUBBY MATCH: Course of fire: 10 shots, range 3 yards, standing, strong hand, double action. You must fire FROM HIP HEIGHT. Pistol must not be held higher than your belt (now don't go winding the belt around your neck to game the match). This is instinct shooting. Smallest group wins.

Would that be shoot 10 rnds, or shoot until you get 10 holes in the paper? :D
