Is $550.00 the magic number for Model 10s?

$550 sounds way over the top for a Model 10 unless it's somehow exceedingly rare, like that 3" discussed above. I forget how many I have but I didn't pay near that kind of price for my last one, maybe it was 2 years ago, and it IS rare. Under 400 as I recall, perhaps plus shipping got it closer to 400 dollars, and it's in beautiful shape and a .357 Magnum besides.

Model 10 .357 Magnum:

Now this next one might have some additional value, I don't know:

Model 10, 2", Nickel

This one was my first one, purchased in 1981 or 1982 (under $200 at the time), and it's as tight as a bank vault and deadly accurate:

2" round butt Model 10 -7 with after market stocks :

The one 4" that I don't have pictured, yet, is a worn out-nickel plated Wells Fargo trade in. The nickel is worn - not the gun - it can take the eye out of a fly at 10 yards. ($125.00 about 15 or 18 years ago).

All of the rest were under 400 bucks, too.

But 400 bucks wasn't just yesterday - I can understand them being worth more than that presently but, still, not $550.00.

Back when I started looking around to pick up a few nice guns you could keep a $100 bill folded up in your wallet and it would usually cover most purchases you ran across. Today I carry from 5 to 10 of those $100 bills in my wallet to cover good buys I might run across. Still not enough in a lot of cases.

A shooter grade model 10 is about $300. I bought a 95% pre model 10 for that a year ago.It would have a hard time coughing up $550 for one.

I don't recall when I last saw a Model 10 for 300 bucks - not in the condition mine are in, anyway. The pictures don't do them justice. If I see one at that price I'll probably buy just because!

Hay, H Richard, you are only carrying a grand with you? Down here that covers the door, burger, beer and a RG10. Have not seen a S&W for less than $500 in a few years. Good hunting

In my area, all the pre-locks are getting harder to find and are creeping up in price. And in my humble opinion, anything pre-lock in original box with doc's is a very good investment!

My son has no use for a fixed sight K frame, none what-so-ever. Nor the big brother on steroids, my 58. I have told him the 58 needs to go to Sheriffoconee, but he will throw the two 65's, three 64's, and three 10's in the trash.

I don't know what I did wrong.

Mr. Colby Bruce: with kids, sometimes you but them books and all they do is chew on the covers.

Please considering disowning your son and adopting me. I promise to give those Smiths a good home. My son will appreciate them when I'm gone!

:-)

Just sold this NIB 4" 10-5 to a good friend for $450.

Seemed fair to both of us.

You're a good man, great gun at a great price.

Beauty is in the eye of the shooter... :)
M10-5
$205 + shipping only a few months ago.

Yes please, I'll take two of those and an order of fries!
That one is right in my wheelhouse. Doesn't look new or perfect, but probably shoots up a storm!

I don't have any M10s but I have a 3" M65-5 I paid $540 after taxes with no box, papers, tools or anything else, just a few months ago. So $550 isn't totally out of line for either the 2" or 3" models IMO. A little on the high side, but if they're in true 95% or better condition, not outrageously high.

In the past year I've purchased two 4" HB Model 10s in pretty good shape. I gave $300 for one and $325 for the other. At last weekends gun show, my GF picked up a very nice 2" 10-7 for $375.
However, at that same gun show many of the Model 10s we looked at really were priced in the $500-550 range. Even rough ones were $400+.
While reasonably priced used Model 10s can still be found, I fear that their days are numbered.

I only have two mod. 10s, wish I had a few more. Around my area they are not seen too much in nice condition. They may have made a ton of them but people like keeping what they have. Like many I don't want to pay 500 for one but I would not take 550 for the ones I have.

I have two mod 10's. One is a "C" prefix 5" and the other is a "S" prefix "4".
Both have the correct gold boxes and it would take double the $500 figure to buy either one. I believe early boxed examples are going to do nothing but go up and now is the time to buy if you can find them.
