Is it a good time to get a CCW?

This is my first post on this forum, so hello all.

I got my Utah CCW permit last July, and just took the Oregon class three days ago so I can carry in my home state.

I am a big man; I'm 6' 5" tall and weigh in at about 295. I'm not the typical guy a thug likes to target for trouble. However, you just never know in this crazy day and age when some miserable low-life tweaker is going to get a wild hair up his rear-end and come after you while he's whacked out on meth. And that's just one example. Hell, that guy who blew away his family over last Christmas wasn't high, he was just crazy! So was the kid here in Portland who killed two teenagers in front of local nightclub.

You just never know what's going to happen and where. That's why I want to carry.

Rant off.

Go right ahead and get it ASAP! Then it will be legal to carry any time you want to. At least it will be your choice.

Go ahead and get it! It's very interesting to see all the different people lined up to apply. It shocked me a while back when I had a clerk at one of our gun shops show me the M&P 9c that I just couldn't let him put back in the showcase. All the way home, I tried to think of what reason I was going to give my wife as to why I needed another pistol, so I just took it in and told her to look what I just bought. The shock was when she told it was nice and could she use it some. Turns out, it's too much for her to rack the slide, so she ended up with my mint Detective Special and is applying for her CWP. After all these years... I didn't know.

Leary? Be glad you live in a place that you are able to get one!

Almost impossible in my location. If Calif ever became a Shall Issue state, I would not even ask that question. I would do it in a heart beat.

Best

Bob

I don't want to sound like a paranoid conspiracy theory nut, but based on my experience as a police investigator, I would not be surprised to learn that "they" are signed on as members of this and other gun forums.

Be careful what you reveal about yourself on the Internet. You can never know who's watching.
Amen!

If not now, when?
If enough don't have one when a "license" to carry is required, imagine how confusing things could get later? When everybody is carrying one anyway! It might be a convenient way for the constabulary to sort out the wheat from the chaff on site?

I submitted all the paperwork and paid all the fees four weeks ago. It will take another 4 to 8 weeks, or so I've been told. The local newspapers say that applications have doubled since the election.

My only regret is that I waited so long.

A little late to be worrying about that. We knuckled under a long time ago when they made us apply for a permit to do what the Constitution already guarantee's us the right to do.

CCW's permit requireemnts are usually hashed out at the state level. Politics differ from state to state. I would strongly encourage anyone to get the CCW permit. In the event demographics and politics shift in your state and the legislature ends the CCW permit process, you may have the option to be "granfathered" and be able to keep the CCW permit even if a change in ordinance occurs.

On a similar note, in the unlikely event federal legislation attempts to restrict states' rights to issue CCW's, be prepared to support those persons, groups, and entities willing to figth the federal intrusion as a "state rights" issue as well as a federal constitutional issue.

Yeah, get it. The CHL classes at my local range are filled to overflowing. As is the parking lot.

Only place where the parking lot attendants are open carrying.

Of course, they're really range officers.

Here in Ohio, we're going from less freedom to more freedom. If that's "knuckling under" then Guadlcanal was the Marines "knuckling under" to the Japanese.

You're still being forced to purchase a permit for something that the constitution already gives you the right to do. Anything but complete freedom is knuckling under.

With the latest shooting in Binghampton, NY, it was inevitable that grumblings about more gun control would start coming out. I swear it's the media that does that to stir up more news and controversy. The way I see it, that is more reason to have a CC license and more guns in the hands of responsible people to protect ourselves from these "nuts".

And before that we couldn't carry concealed at all. Man, I don't know if I can stand the despair...
