Is it possible to change the frame/color on a M&P9?

I am about to buy my first handgun. I know that may sound odd to some, but I've always been a rifle guy (hunting and Army) so I've never invested in handguns. That being said, I'm looking at a M&P9 with thumb safety (personal preference-like I said, I'm a rifle guy) but want it in FDE. However, I cannot find one in FDE with a thumb safety.

Is it possible to change the color of the frame? It's not a deal breaker if I can't, I'll just go with stock.

Check out cabelas; last time I checked, they had M&P in FDE in stock. If they don't anymore, there are some places they will cerakote whatever color you want on the frame.

The VTAC can be fitted with a thumb safety. Any M&P with the square cutouts on the frame can be fitted with a thumb safety.

Thanks for the feedback. I did a little more digging and the S&W 2015 Catalog does have a sku# for a M&P9 FDE with thumb safety. I have been asking around and my local dealers didn't think they made one and I hadn't seen one pictured or in stock anywhere.

Price wise you would be better off buying a regular, black M&P and then go the hydro-graphic (dipping) route if you want a factory thumb safety.

You can buy a no safety version and then add a safety to it. You may even find you like it without the safety, so you have the option.

You can cerakote the frame. I am not a big fan of cerakoting poly frames, I think it looks strange... Too... Smooth, but it works and can hold up well.

You can ask a shop to special order the pistol... But that usually means higher cost than in stock items.

Adding the safety shouldn't add much cost, you can order a kit.
