I was looking for some Remington .38spl+P 125gr. Golden Saber BJHP's but couldn't find any locally, but I did find some some Remington Ultimate Defense which appears to be the exact same ammo, same grain weight, velocity, design, and everything.

Is this ammo the same as the Golden Sabers under a new name? I like what I saw with the GS's in performance reviews and I want to carry this in my 642 for now.

Yes, identical brass jacketed hollow points. They have been marketed under a couple of names now. A couple years back it was packaged as "Remington Home Defense." It's all about marketing.

OK, thanks. I prefer the name Golden Saber myself. Calling it "Ultimate Defense" is clearly capitalizing on Hornady's "Critical Defense", and is just plain silly.

I have boxes of both in .45ACP. I see both still on the shelf. If it is a replacement, it may be that Golden Sabre is 25 rounds, while the Ultimate Defense is 20. It may just be a marketing ploy to sell fewer rounds for the same $$.

But I still buy GS if the price works, since I know it works 100% in the three different formats of 1911 that I carry.

the 110gr "HTP" is a SJHP......
the 158gr "HTD" is a lead SwcHp...........
the 125gr "UD" is a Brass JHP.

You have to really pay attention to what the boxes contain
with all the different style of bullets out there for their use.

Answer: Yes.
