Italian Grinder, Hogie

All I could find for egg bread was Egg Challah Braided Bread. Is that the right kind to make the medianoche?

Portuguese rolls are good and they have a high egg content.
I don't see why not.
For me, bread is just the means to hold together the good stuff.
So long as it heats evenly it works for me.

sofla, you are talking about factory bread.
the trick is to find some bread that's so good it's an important part of the sandwich.
on my breads, the filling is just a relish.

I'm sure it is darlin' but I'm a carnivore at heart.
My wife makes a great bread, sliced so thin to be almost invisible it holds the sandwich together and big fat slices with jam makes a good quick breakfast. As far as I know she's never made the long loaves, much more convenient as fresh baked is just a short ride away.
Different story when the nearest market is quite a hike.

Make some dough and while its rising grill some Italian sausage on the barbie and beside them put some diced vidalia and peppers in a foil package with olive oil and let them sizzle away.Roll the dough out nice and thin, cut a piece and wrap it around a sausage, peppers, onion and provolone.Let the dough rise awhile and bake it for about 20 minutes.
Now I'm starving lol
.

Now I gotta try this'un. Then I gots to go to the market in Baltimore(pronounced Balmer)and get some real Polski Kielbasa and kinda do the same thing...While I am there I will talk to a friend I used to work with and get his recipe for a hamburger based chili and get some GOOD beef dogs that don't swell all up and make me a couple of good chili dogs. Y'all have made me realize my life may no longer be complete without trying some of this food. In fact y'all have made me so hongry I gotta go cook up some of the first major food group (bacon) and make something with that for today. I don't have any of the other stuff handy and it has to be a 25 hour drive to get the ingredients

you know, when i want kielbasa, i have it shipped in, if i don't wanna make it.
it's just amazing what you can get shipped in nowadays.
REAL polish n italian sausages, etc.
kinda pricey, but sometimes you gotta have the good stuff.

Yesterday up in Kayenta, AZ I had breakfast with a bunch of Italians.
I spoke to several, none spoke English.
So I couldn’t discuss food or cars with them.
I don’t even know where they were heading.
A big bus was taking them somewhere.

You can as long as the food and cars are Itallian.

I guess we're lucky in Central MD....
between Jersey Mike's, Jimmie Johns, and Firehouse Subs...we have a couple of acceptable "chain" Italian hoagies to chose from.

There are several good local Italian carryouts around too.

JM'S is a perfect example of lousy bread bringing down the quality of an otherwise pretty good product. A darn shame.

When I lived in Tucson a looong time ago we would go to Eegee's for lunch, it was near my folks' home, on Speedway near Craycroft. Great sandwiches (grinders) and frozen ice drinks, mmm, getting hungry just thinking about them.
