jeez was i scared!

"The Haunting" -- the 1963 movie with Julie Harris, not the remake. I was about 12, probably the first night I was home alone while my folks were at a party at a neighbor's house. It was late and the proverbial dark and stormy night. Didn't think the hair on the back of my neck would ever go back down.

I remember seeing I think the title was "Night of the Grizzly"
with Clint Walker.
Made an impression on me.
Many years ago when that was on I watched part of it and didn't get to finish it. I can't remember if the power went off or if the program was interrupted by a special but I didn't see the end. I would think about it every once in awhile. A couple of years ago the reruns were on TV and that was the second episode I watched. It was kind of spooky for a cowboy movie. Thanks for the memory. Larry

This was the movie that got me first!

seems like they always had snubbies in those old films, youre gonna want a 6" barrel at least for giant ants i think?;)

I must've been 4, maybe 5 and mom and dad were playing pinochle at our godparents place. There was a movie on TV that was an old 50s black and white with people stranded on an island. Giant crabs somehow got telepathic powers and would call people out to them, then of course dine on the islanders. Scared the living hell out of me, I had nightmares for years. I watched the stupid thing about a year ago.....kinda solved my giant crab issues. Definitely a B movie....

It was "Jaws" for me as well. We lived on a Marine Corp
base at the time i seen it as a kid. Beaufort S.C. which
is right near the ocean. I used to love to swim in the ocean
when the riptides were'nt too bad. But after "Jaws" i'll bet
it was months before i got into water that was more than ankle
deep.

When I was a kid late late show or dr shock had an old black and white on about these people stranded on an island ( common theme ) with giant mushrooms the only thing to eat. They then started to turn into mushrooms and kill each other. They could tear off the mushroom people's arms. :D I couldn't eat mushrooms for anther 10 years. Exorcist got me and damion.

I was 15 at that time and was watching this movie in the cinema "It's a live"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It's_Alive_(1974_film)

After the movie late in evening I was so fast on my bicycle that I missed a corner of the bicyclepad. I hit the rim of the sidewalk with my forewheel fell over my bicycle and landed full in a rosegarden.
The torns ripped my new pants.
That was for me my first and for a long period my last horrormovie.

(please click on the link do you mean Its a live. Can get it working)

Wizard of Oz. Flying Monkees wearing Fez hats. Need I say more?

Monkeys? Huh?

I didn't make it that far. That green faced witch scared me so bad that I started screaming and they had to get me out of there.

I was five then and my family says that I ain't been "right" since.

It seems that movie had a profound effect on a lot of folks here... maybe that's the reason we feel the need to surround ourselves with guns.

For me, it was a "documentary" about Bigfoot from the late '70s. Two scenes did me in:

1) Woman sitting on the couch watching TV (at night of course) and hears the porch boards creaking.........a second later, Bigfoot crashes his big, hairy arm through the window, just behind the couch. (first pair of underware-toast!)

2) The follow-up scene to #1 where, of course, the woman screams for her husband. He comes running into the living room with a shotgun (I believe), opens the door and ol' Biggie is standing in the door way. (second pair of undies bite the dust!)

.........got goose bumps typing this and, to this day, I will not sit with my back to a window!

It just occurred to me that I spelled the "Flying Monkees" like the band from the 60's. It should have been "Monkeys".

Can you imagine Davey Jones in a fez, with wings?
Frightening!

I remember my Dad taking me to the movie Grizzly in 1976. I was only nine and remember it scaring the heck out of me. I remember the end...when the guy shoots the bear with a bazooka...classic!

The other one that got me was the origianl Amityville Horror. There is a scene where the crazy father wakes up like at 3:46. I watched this movie on a Friday night and was going pheasant hunting with my brother the next morning (I was 12). I went to bed and fell asleep...and darn if I did not wake up to see my alarm clock flip right to 3:46. I tore out of bed and got dressed. My brother arrived at 545 and thought he would have to wake me up...I was ready to get out of the house!

Darn, I found the scene...it was 315am and I had an alarm clock just like the one in the movie. Still gives me shivers...

SCARY MOVIES

the usual flying monkeys, the exorcist. one date night in college I took a girl to a then fairly new genre of slasher films. went parking in the dark woods later and had a hard time giving her the attention she wanted and deserved, for fear of being yanked out of the car by some maniac.

scared by a paperback book

"JAWS"...not the movie, but the Book. I was not a young guy at the time. I was at the NC coast and noticed there were very few people surf fishing and even less playing in the ocean.

Adult folks were back away from the water's edge and reading a book...kids held at tight rein.

At the motel where we were staying the pool was empty of people. Folks were just hanging out and reading a book.

The book was "Jaws"...I found and bought a copy. Scared the stuff out of me. I became one that stayed out of the water and did not want to get close to the edge.

Even crabbing on the sound's edge was too scary. Wading out to surf fish in the sound or ocean...forget about it.

That reminds me. I went on a first date with a gal and saw the movie "Alien".

GREAT first-date movie. She was holding on to me for dear life. ;)

I remember a Vincent Price movie...I believe it was "The House of the Seven Gables"? It freaked me out pretty good.:cool::D

Same here watching it with my Uncle who taught me to shoot his 03A3 , first gun I shot RIP, but the thing that scared me the most was during the show my Grandmother started hollering and went outside to see what was going on, a guy down the street, she lived in the city, was on fire and burned to death. Left a lasting impression for a pre teen 50 yrs ago.
To this day I won't watch any of the gory horror shows, seen to much death.

Give me the old Peter Pan, Capt'n Hook and the Crocodile got me in the early 50's as a kid good thing the crock ticked so I knew it was comming.

did a movie or something ever really scare you as a kid?

Yeah, I saw my first Jane Fonda movie when I was 12 yrs. old. I've never been the same since then.

Regards,

Dave

PS - Years ago Mrs. Double-O wanted to watch "Silence of the Lambs" (aka "The Quiet Sheep" if you're in East Texas). We were poor, so we waited for the video to come out and rented it from Block Busters. Because it was so popular, you could only rent it for one day (remember those days?). The plan was for us to watch the movie, and then wifey was going to return it to the store while I went to bed because I had early shift the next day. I loved the film - still do - but it scared Mrs. Double-O so much, I had to go with her to return the film. To this day, every now and then, I like to quietly sneak up on Mrs. Double-O and whisper: "Good evening, Clarisse", and then make that "phhfft, phhfft, phhfft" noise. Scares the **** out of Mrs. Double-O, and her chasing me around the house with a rolling pin is good cardio exercise for both of us.

Regards,

Dave
