I just read on another gun forum that famed gun Writer John Taffin is near death, a day or two.
Probably one of the last of his kind.

"It Is with a sad heart that i forward a message from Miss Dot via Jason Cloesner.
I heard from Mrs. Dot that the doctors have given John a day or two left to live. I sure will miss him but do find comfort in knowing he will be with the Lord soon.

Please keep his family in your prayers.
Jason"

I had heard that he was in a bad way, but I was hoping that he could live long enough to use his PPP serial number JT-0001! A fine tribute by Lipsey and Ruger to a great man.

As Clint said in the movie "Unforgiven", we all got it comin' kid". Yes - very sad to see him pass on. Unfortunately, we are all human and so it is a part of life we must all deal with- the toughest part! I hope he enjoyed the short time he had on earth! I know I try to every day!

I am very sorry to hear of John's passing. I enjoyed his writings and the views he had that often parallelled my own on many things. We were both about the same age. Mike Venturino also died, not long ago. The only things that are certain are death and taxes.

Rest in peace, John. You were one of the good ones, and you will be missed.

John

Perfect Packing Pistols was my favorite column to read. I got a kick out of those little homemade red and white targets he’d use. He’s the main reason I subscribe to Guns Magazine.

I haven't ready any John Taffin articles in quite a while, but his articles had a lot of "meat" in them - gun and loading information as opposed to a lot of war stories and tall tales. His work was far better and not shallow like many current paper magazine writers and Internet goobers who attempt to write gun articles. He was also quite the gentleman. I met him about thirty years ago at a Las Vegas SHOT Show.

While I read Mr. Taffin's articles. It was Mike Venturino, who drew me to GUNS Magazine. Sad that they have lost two extremely good writers in less than a year.

John Taffin was certainly one of the better gun writers. Hard for me to know how good, because he clearly knew more than I, especially about SA revovers.

I bought his Big Bore Sixguns, an excellent, expensive coffee-table quality production on the subject. A little more than halfway through the book, I realized that I had gotten the book for free. On page 163, he explained why Ruger had gone to aluminum ejector rod housings, thus saving me the money I was going to waste on a steel replacement.

His knowledge and class will be missed.
