Seems like every time I turn around someone is selling S&W 5906 police trade-ins and I have resisted the urge. Well Sunday our local gun shop ran an add for 5906 @ $299 and Tacticals @ $329. A friend wanted me to go along as he was going to get one. So I watched him pick out the one he wanted and all the time I am telling myself "you better get one for yourself". So I brought this old timer home with me. Cleaned it up yesterday. It is sort of like me in that it has some age spots, some dings, and a few scars. Internals look almost new and it seems to work just fine. Hope to get it to the range next week.

You did well to listen to that inner voice. I think that you will be pleased with how well these perform at the range.
Did you get all 3 mags at that price? If so, you did extremely well:cool:

Todd, congrats with the 5906, that should be a sweet shooter!

I am into the 10mm pistols and have been since my first S&W1006 in Mar 1990.

Thanks for your service, stay safe and good luck!

You got that right "blujax". I haven't been in there in the last couple years that I didn't have to take a number and wait just to get waited on. Must be nice to have a good business these days. But I enjoy going and looking at all the goodies.

Have you ever been to Barnes Guns in Lancaster? It is an old fashioned gun shop with 90% used guns and a couple old farts like me in there that like to gab about guns. Worth a visit some time just to look around.

Congrats! TSWs for$329? That is a heck of deal. I wish I lived closer to Vances.

I like the square trigger guard 5906s, reminds me of the late 659 I had. I also like it has a Novak rear sight.

There is a police trade in at a LGS near me with square trigger guard but for $385, a bunch of dings, some rust, and non-Novak rear sight, I can't justify it as I already have a newer 5906.

Great buy, looks good, love all my cop trade-ins, great guns all around at a price that can't be beat.

Great deal! I have a question though, do the magazines rattle when fully loaded?

You got the same trigger-guard I have :) I like it better than any other variant on the 5906. I like your rear sight too, do they have any more left over?!? I wouldn't mind paying to have one shipped for that deal! hey Jeb21, I noticed with mine that the loaded mag 'rattle' happens with every other round, I forget if it's odd or even off the top of my head, but all my 5906 mags rattle depending on odd or even amount of rounds in them.

Hope you will like it. I had a 5904 for several years. Till I retired, it rode with me every day to work.
Great series of pistols, and it's sad they are no longer made...they are classic working Smiths as much as any revolver.

Just a word of caution on these police trades. Mine looks better in the photo than it does in real life. The right side of the grip shows all the scuffs and dings you would expect from years of holster carry. The photo doesn't show the number of wear and rub marks. So I would ask for some good close up photos if you can't see one in person.

Vance Outdoors Inc. Columbus OH had their ad in the today' paper again. 5906 w/ 3 mags for $299.99, 5906TSW w/ 3 mags for $329.99, Sig P226 2 tone 40 S&W w/ 2 mags for $449.99, and Sig P229 black 40 S&W w/ 2 mags for $439.99. All that I looked at seemed to be fine mechanically but some were pretty scarred so buyer be ware.
