Hey guys, There is a 17-4 for sale at a local gun shop. I have not looked at it yet but pics show pretty well. Factory target hammer and trigger. Wood grips, not sure if they are original. No box. If its in good shape what is your thought on price? Asking $589.

At that price, I'd already be at the range shooting it! :D

I don't have many LGS or pawn shops to choose from so this opinion is based from following GB, GI and GA for the past few years and I have found then hard to touch in 90% plus condition for less than $700 plus the usual associated cost which I always figure on the high side to be $70. Last year I was lucky to have purchased one for $665 no box or paper for $665 and the condition was 95%, I was beyond happy especially after looking back even a year at today's prices.

Depends what you mean by "good shape" but I looked for a while before purchasing a 17-3 in excellent condition , light turn ring on the cylinder , with TH ,TT no box for $650.00 otd.
Anything I looked at that was real nice seemed to be in the $700.00 and up range.

I picked up a 17-4 this summer for $550, it was 95% or better condition. Don't see me coming across one at that price ever again. I would buy it at that price. Mine didn't have the target upgrades either.

I have one, they are really nice shooters. I bought mine used in 1984 and have since put at least 10k rounds though it. Some of them have heavier DA trigger pulls than one might like but they tune really nicely. I know with mine if the shot is not in the 10 ring I must have pointed in the wrong spot. If you don't have a model 17 you will not regret getting one.

Well I picked it up today. I love this thing and haven't even fired it yet! It doesn't have the target hammer/trigger but the action sure does feel sweet :) There is little bit of pitting on the cylinder but other than that this thing is pretty nice. Couldn't pass it up for $589. Thanks for your thoughts guys!

Looks real nice!:) The grips are from an earlier gun with the diamond around the grip screw. They are worth a little more than the magnas from the 17-4 time frame.
