Found this one at the Gunshow today. I couldnt let it go, a sweet little package. has a few wear areas but all original.
I probably paid too much, but sometimes its I just bought too early.

Very nice Dan.
It's nice to get the 'whole meal deal'. It always gives me a warm fuzzy to get it all together.

Dan,

You lucked out there...that is a really nice
K-22 Combat Masterpiece.

Looks like you were able to take it home with you.
I won a K-22 18-4 on GB yesterday, and with shipping
time and the wait in IL I won't see it up close
for a week or so!

Nice! I don't often see the 4". And everything looks to be in really nice condition. You even got the screwdriver! Congrats!

Dan M done good.

In today's world it may not pay to wait around for the "right price". One, they might be outlawed by then. Two, they are being snapped up with frequency.

I just one an auction on a K-22 Combat Masterpiece that was entirely mint except a spot of blue loss near the crown from what appeared to be damage from cold-blue. Also the crown itself had all the blue removed from what appeared to be a harsh cleaning. The rest of the revolver had no marks on it of any kind anyhwere. No box or accesories.

I too might have paid too much according to a more astute and careful shopper, but a year or so from now it would not have been too much. And I might never have found one in such good, pristine [except as mentioned] condition.

I paid $765.00 total. The "new re-issue" is sellign for that much or more. And they will never have the appeal of a K-22 made in 1952 such as mine if I take care of it.

You done good.

That is very nice, especially with the box and all the contents. Given how much K-22s of all kinds have appreciated recently, "too early" may mean it will be worth more than you paid in about 6 months :) .

Very nice Dan, but what happened...ya tired of prewar guns?? Or have you snapped up all the good deals??? lol

Dan, nice score. 1951, I think, based on the serial number.

A great pleasure to see a complete (or virtually complete) package. Good work! I still need one of those four-inch five-screw types. One of these days...

Thanks Everyone,

after seeing a screw driver like this one on GB selling for over $100 I guess I did ok on the purchase.

Curtis,
I just havent seen any nice prewar N frames that scream buy me lately. Although there are 3 T-locks at the show. one is a 455 thats been converted to 45 ACP to accept moon rings $600, Another 44 special that has been refinished poorly in Nickel $600, and then a Belgian Copy of the T-lock ( I may buy this one today if I get him down to $250.)

David, 1951 is where I had it too. I checked the Database and it was the 4th lowest #'d gun listed in the database.

Thanks

Dan

Anyone know what the speed hammer is/was?

Also called the "fish hook" hammer. It was the postwar hammer configuration associated with the short-throw action. The standard hammer on any K-Masterpiece before about 1956 was the speed hammer.

Also called by at least one important member of this forum the "sculpted" hammer.

Dan M here's the brother to yours that I bought. You did good because you got all the accessories with yours. I only got the handgun but I love it.

The flaw is seen as a brown spot on near the front of the barrel.

This revolver is all original with grips numbered to the gun, as I said no flaws anywhere the stocks were pristine. The workmanship that went into these S&W's is incredible.

However the mainspring came off a 1950 Ford Step-Side pickup truck. The trigger return spring was just right but the mainspring was tough! I have slimmed it down a bit and will see how it does at the range again. Mine shoots into 2 1/2 inches at 25 yards with the best ammo I could find.

This is probably going to become one of my most shot handguns, it is just so much fun to shoot and so handy. You're gonna love yours.

Dan.
Nice K22. Here is a pick of an early one:

A family photo of the 4 inch K22's.

Wondered thru Murphy's last Sat. my Sporting Clays shooting partner picked up a 17-4 4 inch. Not a commonly seen K22.
