Couple pals and their wife/fiancé and I headed to Key West for a quick three night visit last week.
Early morning flight out of DCA got us to MIA where the boys got off and headed to Eagle Rider whilst the girls made a connection to Key West.
We hopped on our rented Harley Heritage Softails and were soon southbound and down. Once out of the city we took 997 straight to the Overseas Highway. Terrific weather and making good time enabled a quick stop at Jimmy Johnson's (football JJ) Big Chill joint in Key Largo for a couple beers and calamari. Back aboard we had a great ride til one of my pals told us we were soon to hit some nasty weather. (He had a weather app on his bike mounted phone and all three of us have Sena helmet communicators.) We quickly looked for a place to stop as the rains came...with winds and crazy looking skies all around. Saw Curry Hammock State Park sign and exited where we found a most welcoming Ranger who let us take cover in the station. Nasty weather continued. About 45 minutes later the really bad stuff passed and we decided to continue south. Bear in mind the Seven Mile Bridge was still ahead...so was more rain. Off we went...
Trust me, it is zero fun crossing a seven mile long two lane (one each way) bridge in the rain with sunset quickly approaching. Rather dark when we finally got to the hotel. We found a note that the girls were already out on the town so we quickly dried off, changed, and met them on Duval Street. Dinner, drinks, shots, more drinks before shuttle back to the hotel.
Sightseeing the next day as two of my friends had never been to Key West. But that was only after a fantastic breakfast with Bloody Mary's, a few Sam Adams', and eggs Benedict.
Bit of pool time in the afternoon and then back out on the town where all of us tied on big ones.
All day poolside Friday before out to the beerrooms at sunset. A much tamer evening as the guys were northbound at 0800 Saturday. Lotsa traffic but
safely back at Eagle Rider in plenty of time for the flight home.
Girls missed their connection due to American Airlines screw up but we all reconnected in DC circa 2100 .
Sorry for the long post.
Be safe.
