I went to the Lakeland Rifle & Pistol Club gun show this morning to see if I could find anything worthwhile. First off, the price had gone up $2 from last time I attended…to be expected at some point, I suppose, but almost 15 bucks for a gun show seems a bit steep to my cheapskate self. I got there early and was about 4th in the line for attendees with guns to check. I say that because the second gentleman in line was on a handicapped scooter which promptly hung up on the threshold, effectively blocking our line from moving whilst the line with no guns to check streamed in unabated. Oh well, what can you do.
It was a good show for the money, I think. Lots and lots of vintage S&W and Colt iron. Prices were high and seem to have climbed a bit since my last visit to the venue. I did see some bargains, and picked up a slightly molested, but mechanically sound M1917 for $400…more on that in the proper forum. I saw what was described as a RARE Model 16 no dash Lew Horton with box for less than $2K, but the box was a newer Bangor Punta era clamshell and the barrel was clearly marked “ .32 Magnum”. A certain phrase coined by P.T. Barnum comes to mind. I snapped a quick phone pic of it between two people blocking me from getting to it, and would have liked to examine it closer. By that time, an hour and a half after opening, it gets difficult to move freely through the aisles and that’s about when I call it quits.
In addition to the M1917, I found 5 M&P 1.0 357sig/.40 mags for $20 apiece. To me, that was worth the trip and admission price. I recently acquired a M&P 357sig and wasn’t having any luck finding additional mags for it.
I saw several S&WCA brethren there and got to talk with them a bit. I just missed pharmer and looked around for cherrypointmarine…sorry if I missed you Mike, I was looking forward to saying Hi and talking with you a bit, but I had to bug out and make it back to Port Charlotte by noon.
I’m looking forward to the January show and hope to see you guys there.
