I purchased this past week, this nickel-plated Model of 1905. It has the N under the grip frame. Serial number is 453995 - can anyone narrow down the manufacturing date for me? It is in one of those big ranges in SCSW between 1915 and 1942.

It had sharp-shouldered magnas on it (actually in nice shape). I had a spare set of 1920s grips which I have put on it that happen to fit very well. Is this actually a 1930's gun?

It is finish-challenged - these pictures are after Flitzing for a while. There is a missing screw (any ideas where to find one?).
This is one of the rare cases where the pictures look better than it does in real life. The barrel and chambers are in surprisingly good shape. There is a bit of wobble in the cylinder, but not too bad.

I paid $200 for it.

It has the MADE IN USA on the frame and the large, mushroom ejector rod end. Places it in the 1922-1929 era.

Hopefully someone else can narrow it down a bit more.

That SN would date your M&P as shipping in approximately mid-1923. The grips pictured would be correct for that period. A nickeled sideplate screw might be a little difficult, but the usual gun parts houses, such as Numrich, should be able to provide the sideplate screw needed blued. Or someone here may have one that they would sell you. eBay might also be a source. You did OK for $200.

Nice piece for only 2 Franklins!
DWalt has given you the best estimate for a shipping date. The stocks now on it are period correct and look good.
As for those "sharp-shouldered magnas" what serial number is stamped on the inside of the right panel? Are you interested in selling them? I might be interested in purchasing them, if so.

Either 360121 or 860121 on the magnas. Will PM you some pix later.

Thanks. With that shape, it is very doubtful it will be 360xxx. I can't think of a model in the range that would fit those stocks.
If it is 860121, I would definitely be interested. Will look for your pictures.
Thanks!

The nickel screws are hard to find, but Numrich or Brownells probably has stainless screws that will match better than blued. That's what I did on my nickel pre 10.
