Latest Serial numbers on 15-22

Just Picked Up

Hello All, I'm new to the forum and wanted to say hello. I got my 15 22 last week and love it. My Ser# is DVW5###. I am looking for some acc. as we speak. :)

Serial #'s

Hello All,

At the range yesterday and had a round fire out of battery blowing off the ejector and spring. Did not know this was an issue until I started doing some research. I have seen where the good people on this site have been researching serial #'s and keeping a good record. My Serial # begins with a DTM0***. According to Smith my weapon was produced in OCT 2009. I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on where the DTM series fell in the production process. I see where posters have speculated on the latest serial #'s, but may have missed any threads dealing with the earliest.

I wish somone would chime in with some facts as to when the factory put the better parts in. I'm going to call customer service. I'm going to go find the phone number and call them tomorrow.

I just bought one with ser# DTM8xxx

Did I get old stock. Do I need to worry about the issues that occured with older models? How can I tell if it has been updated?

new unit serial number DVW5xxx

I picked up a unit today at Smokin' Guns in Paris. They had S&W reps there Fri & Sat, but I couldn't get there. Today, they still had quite a few 15-22's. All had serial numbers starting with DVWxxxx.

My new M&P15-22 "Tackdriver" S/N: DVW60XX

I just purchased the Gander Mountain S&W M&P 15-22 "TackDriver" model on Sun, Jun 5th. ($499.99 after mail-in rebate + tax).

I took it home right away, gave it a quick bore cleaning and went right to the range the same day since my son was visiting and we wanted to shoot it while he was still there.

The ammo we used was:

1) Federal 36 gr. copper plated hollow point (value pack 550).
2) CCI Blazer 40gr. lead round nose.
3) Winchester Super X 37 gr.
copper plated hollow point.
4) Remington High Velocity
36 gr. hollow point.
5)
Remington ThunderBolt 40 gr. lead round nose.

The S&W factory packed the box with the wrong manual (M&P15 center fire rifles manual). So by the time I read the latest manual for the rim fire on-line I found out the following info in it:

"Based on the design and action of the M&P15-22, Smith &
Wesson recommends that you use the following brands and
types of .22LR ammunition for optimal performance in your
M&P15-22 rifle:
• CCI Standard Velocity • Federal American Eagle
• CCI Mini-Mag • Federal GameShock
• Aguila Super Extra Std. Velocity • Winchester Super-X High Velocity
• Aguila Super Extra High Velocity"

"Through our testing, Smith & Wesson has also found that there
are several brands and types of .22LR ammunition that do not
perform consistently or reliably. Consequently, Smith & Wesson
DOES NOT RECOMMEND that the following brands or types of
.22LR ammunition be used in your M&P15-22 rifle:
• Remington Golden Bullet • Remington Thunderbolt
• Remington Target 22 • Winchester Wildcat
• Any and all sub-sonic brands and types"

So the only ammo we used on the "recommended list" was Winchester Super X, which happened to actually give us the poorest accuracy! And some of the others we shot were on the NOT recommended list!

All of the ammo we fired performed without any kind of failures whatsoever!!

This rifle absolutely performed "Out Of the Box" 100%! (My Serial # is DVW60XX)

The Remington Thunderbolt, however was very waxy and (I think it was the culprit) shot with a lot of soot. (BTW, The Colt/Umarex M4 Ops .22LR that I also own will not chamber any Remington ammo EVER! See Picture of it, below).

Here are pictures of the last two targets that my son and I shot at the end of the session while (I believe) we were using the Remington Thunderbolts - shooting up the box (ignore the masking tape - we use our targets real well before changing them). The slow fire was my son and the VERY rapid fire was mine at 75ft:

I got mine about a week and a half ago and serial# is DVA with the blue springs.

My 15-22 is serial number DVW1xxx. Picked it up about a week ago. It has been at my gun store for a little bit. Shot about 500 or so through it all ready with no type of failures. Mine is the Real Tree model with A1 birdcage.

I bought the Real Tree model because it was $50 cheaper and I wanted to look like a tool when I do drills.

new to the forum, just picked up yesterday
Ser # DWC5XXX

No problems with the 1st 300 rounds - Aguila

JC

DVW6XXX purchased last Thursday. Put 1800 rounds through it between two range trips on Saturday & Sunday and could not be happier with its performance.
