LEO Marked S&W Semi-Autos

Model Number and Serial Number should be on left side just above trigger. In your case Model should be 4006TSW and the CHP4406 is the Serial Number. Slide, Barrel, and Frame should be match marked E4406 on right side of pistol
Sure is! I do need to take it out more, but that goes for a few others too.
Edit: FYI lanyard loop was added and straight grip switched to curved

I have these two;
4003TSW marked Atlanta Police and a 469 with large numbers stamped on the frame which I was told was a PD gun but no idea of agency. I don’t know if it really is or not but I don’t know of any other reason to mark the frame like that.

Posted these in another thread but here are two of mine a California Park Police marked M&P 40 and an Atlanta Police marked 5903. Got the M&P from an online distributor a few weeks back and the 5903 from a gun show in Tennessee years ago.

The kalyfornya State Parks always "rode" the CHP contract, so what ever the CHP carried is what they carried. The rumor was those State Parks pistols were always in great shape because they never shot them.

My understanding from other threads here is that every state agency had to buy what CHP specified.

I'm not sure that is a fact, at least during my tenure there. I saw CA Dept of insurance fraud, the lottery Police and ABC carrying Glocks in 9mm when I was there. The plain cloths folks didn't like the weight of the 4006. Things could have changed.

Ca State Parks circa 1996/7 used 4006 SW Product Code 103935 with right side markings PRxxxx and possibly PHxxxx with Adjustable sights. Observed s/n prefixes VYC, VYJ, VYL, VZD.

I tried very hard to get them into a fixed sighted pistol when I was there, but they insisted on that "giant" winged adjustable sight. It was bullet proof but probably doubled the weight of the gun. ;) They finally got away from it after their head armorer (and I) retired.

Kind of off topic here, I was just identifying the Ca State Parks 4006 configuration (similar sight choice to early CHP 4006 variants = Prod Code 103934 with "Axxxx" right side match marking and later "Bxxxx" match marking - but the CHP 4006TSW "Dxxxx" and "Exxxx" did switch to Novaks).
Somehow the Adjustable Sight question always seems to bring out violently differing opinions - they are "ugly" vs they are "useful" but I've never heard they "double the weight of the gun" - cant imagine its more than an ounce difference. Personally I would prefer the Night sights but the Adjustable would be my second choice with the main advantage to the Novak being their size / shape as it relates to holster use and their visually appealing geometry.

Brother, just kidding on that. The gun was heavy enough with or without. The reason the range staff wanted the adjustable sights is that they were easier to deal with when it came to zeroing the individual pistols. With fixed sights it would have required an armorer to make adjustments and possible even change out fronts to get a zero. It was more of w perceived problem than a reality as they found out after the switch to fixed Novaks.

I'm not interested and I'm not advertising for them, but J&G Sales has LE Surplus 5906s for sale. I don't know if they are agency marked.

No link because of the rules, but should be easy to search out.
They also have French marked Model 64s

I bought a 3953 model from a forum member that looks like Taroman's pistol. Mine is numbered N.P.D. 188.

That's a Newark (NJ) P.D. gun ... For a time, plainclothes carried the S&W 3953, while uniformed officers were issued the Model 6946...
