Of course I have a permit to buy a handgun, my question is why am I always on delay when I want to buy a gun?? When I bought my Sigma I had to wait 8 days before I could take it home and the only reason that was is because of store policy. On the 8th day the delay still hadnt been lifted.

If a person has a permit to buy I dont think he/she should have to wait more then 3-4 days. To get a permit a person has to go thru the background check, then has to go thru it again when ready to buy?? I am hoping someone can explain this whole procedure to me. I dont understand how this system works.

not sure why, but here in pa i took my sigma home the day i walked into the store. i too have a license to carry permit and had to go through the bg check to buy the sigma. it took 5 minutes at most.

We have no permits to buy anything in Arizona. If you have a CCW permit, they don't even call insta-check! Fill out your yellow form & walk out with your gun!

You do not need a CCW permit to carry concealed in Arizona.

I am not form your home State, but UNLESS it is either a State or Local town law, I would find another Gun Shop.

Every state has a different set of gun laws. In IL we have a 72 hour wait on all handguns, (that's 72 "business hours" of the store you bought it in). Long guns are 24 hours. Every sale must be called in to the state police instant check. Often the instant check takes a day or two.

It could be your "instant check" site is under manned or working with poor software, causing the delays.

It's because you live in MN, The State that "knows what's good for you" Only kidding, I lived there. One of the few States I visit where my CCW is not honored.

As to your question, you may have a common name or a name associated with someone with a bad history.

Here in Florida which is very gun friendly I see it all the time at the gun shop. Folks who are regular customers get a delay every time for some unknown reason. A CCW in this State does not exempt you from the backgound check. it only allows you to take a handgun home the same day. Without a CCW it is a 3 day wait (for handguns) There is not wait for any long gun as they are not dangerous.

LEO's buying a gun still need to do a back ground check.

Most likely your name matches or is similar to someone whose history somewhere would make them ineligible to own a firearm. I met a cop years ago whose name/DOB matches a real bad actor, and he had some pretty annoying experiences as a result. I match all but the year of birth on some guy from Jersey who is ineligible for a CDL, and every time I have renewed mine it shows up.

Off topic here,but can you imagine how nice it must have been to walk into a store in 1921 and walk out with a Thompson sub gun,with no paperwork to deal with.

My understanding is that its not the state..they issued the permit to buy so their job is done. Its the FBI or whoever they go through to do the checking for them.

Sounds like either a State hold or the Gun Shop is dragging it's feet.

It's nice in the once Republic of Texas. No ccw, background 5 minutes, walk to the register with your new gun and ammo. Out the door. In essence, your new weapon could be ready to fire 6 minutes from the time you say, "I'll take it."

If it is NICS that is delaying you the dealer should give you a case number and pamphlet explaining your options. Any other delay must be something else. Ask the store to explain in detail. Good luck.

I had the same problem and had to get a UPIN. It took six months for the FBI to approve it even with (then) Senator Norm Coleman helping.

It is nothing to do with Minnesota. With my MN CCW permit, I walk into the store, plunk down my money and walk out wiyh the gun. Yes, I fill out a form; the part the LGS fills out is even longer. I assume they phone in a check, but it has never delayed me noticeably.

Here it depends on the store..Gander will let me have it after 8 days if the delay is not lifted by then. Scheels dont hand it over until the delay is lifted. Salesperson said that there was an incident so they changed their policy.
Pawn shops stopped selling them here in Mankato,not sure about the rest of the state.

The range I go to not sure how they work it...they are over priced so I havent bought one from them.

A nonresident, with or without a CCW (actually, it is a CWP in Arizona), cannot buy any gun in Arizona, with some limited long gun purchases available to some contiguous state residents, under Federal law, same as any other state (see GCA of 1968).

In WA the mandatory background check is done by the local police department (handguns). Where I live it takes about a week and can be extended to 30 days. If you have a CCW license, there is no background check as the CCW is issued by the same police department.
