I switched the grips on my 27-2's because I liked the coloring better this way on them.

27-2 with 6 inch barrel Blued with a set of S&W presentation Cocobolo grips

Nickel 27-2 6 inch barrel with the Ahrends Retro Target grips

I have bought a lot of grips from Kim Ahrends but I think he out did himself on this set. They are book marked and look identical on each side. I love the grain pattern and coloration on these grips.

TexNekkid, Tell us more about your Roper stocks. How long have you owned them and what if any story to go along with the gun, and if your able sometime how about a picture of the inside of both panels, especially around the area that butts up to the back of the trigger guard. It's a pretty rare style and I've wondered how certain features were made on them. It's a very looking cool DS, I'll bet King didn't do many of them.

I haven't checked this thread lately, so apologize for not getting back to you sooner. There's not much story to tell. I just walked into my local gun emporium one day about 3 or 4 years ago, saw it, fondled it, and couldn't walk away from it because the grips felt so good. I didn't know what I had, but have since received considerable info from Kevin Williams, a very nice young man from Austin who occasionally writes about King and Roper when he's not writing about 1911s.

Here's the requested pic. It's a little blurred, but if you look carefully you can see it's been repaired a few times over the years.

In 1993 I bought this used Model 36 as a self defense gun for my then wife. It was missing the Pachmayr medallion on the right grip, so I had to do something. Went down to the basement and put my old model airplane painting skills to use....... Wife is gone, but still got the gun!

Might as well throw in my $.02 - actually, my $5.00. These are some Sile stocks that CDNN Sports had been selling at that price or thereabouts. Not the prettiest stocks in the world, but I like the way they fit my hand so I bought dozens in J, K and N size.
