Amazing group of guns that you have and I love the grips on all of them but my favorite are on the 1911 and are they camel bone??

Here is my most unusual grips. any help with ID of the material? Stag? Bone? They are made to fit the 38/44 N frame, which is a little longer than the standard N frame. They are notched on both sides, three on one side and 4 on the other. I sure would like to know the history behind them. I found them at a gun show while looking for correct grips for the old, 1930 year 38/44 revolver, as it came to me with rubber grips.
