Has anyone found a crayon that decently matches the FD e color?

Blasted from my Samsung Galaxy SIII (CM10.1 Masta Mix).

Crayola "tumbleweed" matches pretty close. Also, I filled "MBUS" and the Magpul logo in black on my sights

Did it today - Tumbleweed on the M&P logo, red/white on Fire/Safety. Had to heat up the polymer with a hairdryer a bit, then melt the tip of the crayon to get a nice smooth coverage. Just smear it in and wipe it away. I did the "Made in USA" in red/white/blue thinking it would be nice, but you can't see the blue. Considering chipping it out and doing a brighter shade.

Guys,

What are you using to color the letters? I saw pics of a red "fire" and white "safe" that looked pretty nice

Thanks.:)

You may scoff at the notion, however I simply used regular crayons, still perfect after 1 year of heavy use. Others use nail polish, use some Remington REM oil to clean up the excess residue off of the weapon. You could use a dab of WD-40 but you must ensure you clean it off rather expediently otherwise it will leave a residue

You can also remove the crayon with a pencil eraser, just be careful around the lettering so it doesn't pull out your coloring.

Well I tried my hand at it and I'm very happy with the results. I used nail polish and non-acetone nail polish remover. Just coated the whole area not worrying about just the recesses, waited for it to dry and gently wiped off what I didn't want. A few coats and bit of headache and we're good. Wanna get a better red for the fire though.

Did my Glock slide too :D

Sorry about the crummy pics, couldn't find my camera.

I've heard many people use nail polish. Do you all think crayons are better?

I always thought the nail polish technique was for metal parts and the crayon was for polymer. I used crayon for my 15-22 and am planning on doing nail polish for the M&P 40 tomorrow. Does anyone know of a good FDE-colored polish? Everything I see is sparkly and well..no. Might just end up going with white.

Crayons seem to work well enough. Although it looks a little childish, but it's a .22LR. I'm sure most of us grew up shooting them as children anyways.

I used asparagus crayola crayon and windex to wipe excess. Closest to od I could find!

Going to try the "tacticrayola" on my 15-22 today after work. from reading all the info here I'm going to use my wifes hair dyer and my kids crayons ;)

Great mod. I wanted to make the "Safe" and "Fire" etching more readable. Used the hairdryer and crayola method. Safe in white and Fire in red (did white followed up by red to make the red stand out).

Dripped the crayon in and wiped up the excess. Came out awesome. Great tips!
