Local find - Model 37

Although the grips are not S&W factory stocks (and whoever made them fumbled the super glue ball) this Model 37 No dash is in pretty good shape. (That and I need to shoot some better pictures of it) I assume its a round butt by the shape of the butt - now to find some decent stocks for it. Serial number is 232260; would someone let me know when this flat latch was made please?

From the photos you posted it looks like a square butt, not a round butt (IMO, that's a GOOD thing).

I can't say much more about DOB than 57-62, but I am sure there are several who can. Probably at least one or two will post here.

IMO, a very desirable gun.

Definately a square butt (SB) but it is a nice find. SB 37 is as good as it gets and those grips look good.

Yupper, a square butt. Here's mine bought new in 1978. It was my "bring it to business every morning" gun for 30 years.

My first carry piece was a 3" 37 and I still have it from way back 1974

Yep, the square butt was the lesser produced model of the 37. Looks like you have a nice one there.

Check the frame on the underside of the barrel to check for crack or hairline starting.

Love these too, but had the inherent fault of being pathetically thin frame where the barrel screws into the frame.

Open cylinder, turn upside down, to examine the frame at it's thinnest point (where the barrel is screwed in). For some reason S&W didn't correct this problem until much later in the production.
