Looking for info on swapping j frame hammers.

I'm thinking about ordering a spare hammer to Bob for my 60-7. Will any non rimfire hammer with the hammer mounted firing pin work? If I end up with a stripped hammer, how hard is it to strip my old hammer and assemble the new hammer?

You may have to fit the double action sear to the trigger. That requires some patience stoning.

Stripping a hammer requires some small pin punches and a level place to work.

Also avoid the temptation to stone the trigger.

Buy a replacement hammer. Bob the current hammer. If you ever go back then worry about installing the double action sear.

If I where to strip the sear off my current hammer and move over, would that negate the need for fitting?

Anyone know a history of hammer changes that correspond to the dash numbers?
