M 625- 45ACP roll call

My Model of 1988 has been extremely accurate with both lead and jacketed from the day I took it out of the box. One of the best buys I ever made. My son has it now.

Does your 625-3 have the ball detent like this one of mine does? I have wondered whether it is factory or part of an accuracy job. Shown are the ball and the detent.
The action and trigger are as smooth as any I've ever felt so maybe? It shoots like a rifle with my cast bullet loads. Probably my favorite gun. This bullet turns a little auto rim into a thumper.

Nice touch, but the ball detent was done after it left the factory.

I had to put a red hi viz front sight on my 625. Got too hard to pick up the black front blade in action matches. I’ve played with different grips over the years, still haven’t found the perfect set. The other is a Thunder Ranch.

Back in the last century, I qualified with and carried 625's with 3, 4 and 5 inch barrels.

The only one I have left is this 625-4 with Performance Center upgrades. D&L rear sight, tritium front.

No, they have discontinued ALL the ACP revolvers for the foreseen future.

Kevin

And don't count on one. I was speaking with a S&W rep at the LGS yesterday and his response to my question about the 625 in .45ACP was that they just didn't sell enough of them. Oh well....

I don't think they've ever been popular. When I bought a 3" 625 more than thirty years ago, I got it from CDNN; they sell a lot of closeout and unpopular stuff that were slow movers.

625's

here is my one and only 625...a 4"B model 625-3. mainly for range enjoyment, but also a valued part of my collection, and certainly a viable self defense tool as well

and since blue finishes are permitted, here is its .45 acp companion, a lettered Jovino model 25-2

Spent a cold and rainy yesterday afternoon building 40 moonclips worth of 45acp =240 rounds. Used 3.5 gr of BE behind a 200 gr short nosed swc in spp brass but I substituted cci sr primers as I traded all my spp for lpp a while back. Planning to shoot them in a 2 gun zsa match next month in a Model of 1988 625 along with my short barreled 1903 with an extended 11 rd mag. Should be interesting.

Update- came in last but had a good time. The 625 did fine and while accurate my 1903 was no match for the mostly ARs and a couple of AKs that the other shooters were using.

Looking forward to hearing how you did in my match. Interesting combination for a multi gun match

Regrettably my 625 has recently developed timing issues ( I reported it in the S&W smithing section).

Am disappointed as I had planned to use it in an upcoming sanctioned IDPA match next month. Fortunately I have other revolvers.
