S&W shop called this afternoon and told me my M&P 15-22 was on the way back and I should get it by Friday. "They'll deliver it on Christmas? Great!" "You should get it by Monday!" Looks like no test firing this weekend.

You must have talked to the same guy who I e-mailed about the various issues with ammo hangups in the magazine and parts failures.

S&W Mark Rossini-

"phil- it has not been an issue at this point"

LOL..... Merry Christmas

I got mine right after t-day, shot about 500 rounds and was having problems with FTL day one,(bullet standing up in clip) I am using fed value pack and cci both ammo's did the same, but after reading alittle on here, found out what i was doing wrong, popped off 75 today and worked perfect, im alittle disapointed with the accuracy so far but i havent set down and really tryed yet. so thats really not fair to say as of yet. The cci seemed to do better as far as accuracy ,But over all i love the gun, its fun to shoot and looks cool . I would like to thank this forum for the info , i was getting ready to send it in to S&W for repairs but no need as of now,

So tell us what you were doing wrong that was making the bullet to stand up in the magazine?

First time out

Wonderful gun to shoot - very fun. First time shooting 22lr.

50 rnds federal bulk with 2 failure to feeds- both sticking straight up in mag when ejected the mag and very difficult to get out. Otherwise federal was great.

80 rnds remington golden bulk pack with 4 failure to feeds- different than above- half into battery, half out. Dropped mag and reseated and fine. Five of the 80 also no-fires.

Only did 15yrds as was indoors on the handgun side-- but was 1.5 inch groups out of box with no difference between federal or remington that I could tell. Will be interesting to see what I can get at longer distance and whether spreads out. Using cheap red dot 30mm site for rear and trying to site in. Good precision-- need time to get my accuracy down left and down with the red dot.

All and all, no failure to eject; just some failure to feeds which probably are caused by me and the mag-- which I will have to read up on.

very fun to shoot....look forward to more.

ps- serial prefix DTM if anywone is wondering when made - purchased two weeks ago.

n3cal, thanks for doing this. I just got mine back from smith and it's really encouraging that most people didn't have problems. When this happens to you it feels like everybody has a problem. This poll shows that's not correct. Happy Holidays!

I have been following this forum for a while trying to decide if I wanted to buy a 15-22 or not. Well despite the bad news I read, I went ahead and purchased one anyways and hoped for the best.

After taking delivery of the rifle, I broke it down and cleaned it thoroughly. While cleaning it, I noticed several metal shavings around the bolt which were cleaned out with the help of compressed air. The rifle was then lightly oiled and reassembled.

I took the rifle to the range today and proceeded to put 300 rounds of CCI MiniMags through it. The rifle was flawless, and I did not have one FTL or FTE.

With a couple clicks of adjustment, the sights proved to be very accurate and I was able to consistently create tight groupings with the help of a bench rest.

After 300 rounds, the rifle was quite dirty however I decided to try some Winchester Wild Cats in it. 100 rounds later, I finally managed to get my first FTF which was my fault due to sloppy loading of the magazine.

I put another 50 rounds down range before calling it quits. Needless to say, I am pleased with the performance and accuracy of this firearm and have come to the following conclusions:

1. If you plan on putting several rounds down range, buy quality ammo. This rifle does not like cheap or dirty ammo and gets dirty quickly when using cheap ammo. CCI MiniMags worked great and even though the Winchester Wild Cats worked, the rifle cycled better with the CCI ammo.

2. The magazine is very sensitive and has to be loaded perfectly in order to keep the rifle functioning. The FTL I had was due to the fact that I loaded a round sloppily and as a result, it stovepiped.

3. As with any mass production firearm, this rifle will benefit from a through cleaning and oiling before being put into use. Don't skip this step!

4. This rifle can be very accurate if you take the time to set it up correctly. The use of a bench rest helps tremendously and with some patience, you can create consistent tight groupings.

5. This rifle is fun as hell to shoot. If you are holding off on buying one, quit stalling and go get one!

Mini Mag

I have to say cci mini mag is the way to go I think it is the best round for this rifle Ive had nothing but pure enjoyment the best part is i'm not throwing .50 cents everytime I shoot!!! My bushmaster is sitting in the safe for now:mad:

I bought mine the first of October. Except for a couple of times that I loaded the mags improperly, mine has worked flawlessly.

About 6-700 rounds down range.

+1, Mini Mag is the way to go indeed. :D

Opened mine last night for Christmas (I had test fired about 200 rounds a few months ago with some minor problems).
Today I fired 75 rounds of CCI no problems. Fired 75 rounds of Federal bulk with no problems. Then I started firing 25 CCI and 25 Federal bulk. It began jamming, FTF, a few crushed rounds, a few jammed in the mags. For the next 200 rounds I kept having a few jams, FTF etc.. I was starting to worry. Also It seemed like it would not shoot accurately consistently.
Then it quit having problems! I don't know what happened but it started putting every round down range. I have a SIG Mosquito that took a lot of rounds before it started working consistently and it may have just needed "broke in". I tweaked the scope and got the accuracy back on. I burned through another 350 rounds hitting targets at 25, 50 and 100 yards with pretty fair accuracy. Sure needed a good cleaning which was easy. Mines a keeper. I better buy more ammo.
NOTE: Overall mine liked the Federal Bulk better than the CCI (better for me because of the price difference).

*#@%, now I know why I can't find any Federal Bulk packs at the local stores. j/k

Lookin good. Enjoy your new Christmas gift. Keep an eye on the ejector, it may need a tweak to keep the FTEs away.

That's alot of ammo! Here in the not so great state of Maryland the State Police would be knocking down my door for having that much ammo!

Off topic. Does the not so great state of MD regulate the amount of ammo in homeowners possession?

There currently is no law in Maryland, however, several counties within the state have been using the "ammo log". For instance, some Walmarts use them. The log is kept by the store selling the ammo and the State Police monitor the logs. There have been several documented raids based on ammo purchases documented in these logs. Maryland is a very agressive state.

Here is a recent thread from our local forum:

Mashing on the link results in a log in (membership) to view thread. :(
So just buying a certain amount of ammo gets a door knock?

Where I live Walmart only logs handgun specific ammo purchases. They don't log stuff like 30-30. Naturally, I only purchase 22LR for rifles. ;)
