So, I walked into my LGS Saturday to pick up an H&K P30L for the range. Walked out with the new M&P BG! How does that happen? On sale for $299. What are you going to do...

Anyhow first trip to the range today, here's how it went:

Really, surprisingly well in terms of operation. As I've been following post after post, year after year about what a *** the previous iteration of the BG was, it was with some trepidation that I gave his new-born brother a try.

The gun operated flawlessly. Ran about 50 rounds of WWB through it and another 50 of Hornady CD. No issues at all. No FTE, FTF FT-Anything. Recoil was surprisingly tame given the size. I was short on time but certainly could have put another 100 rounds through without a problem on the hand. Completely manageable.

However, although the gun ran fine, I couldn't hit a thing. I set up a target close, I mean like 12 feet close. I started off with my LC9 just to warm up and get used to some snap. it's also a DAO polymer so it's a comparable trigger pull (see loooong). With the LC9, everything flew right on the money with groups at 2".

Started with the M&P. Same distance and everything shot like 4-5 inches low and to the left. Everything! AT 12 FEET!!! Not that the sights are even usable or that it's the kind of gun that you would use in any situation other than bad breath distances… But man, I couldn't hit a thing. If I aimed high, with the ramp completely covering the bullseye and sighted above the rear notch, I could come close. But that just seems weird.

As I said, I'm used to that kind of trigger pull but I'm wondering if on a gun this size, is there a possibility that a barrel could be bad? I am aware of cant issues with revolvers but a semi?

Anyone else have this experience? Thinking about switching the sights out to an XS system but before I spend the $ just thought I would check in.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Ya, ya ya lol! Thanks for the chart. Could be me but I doubt it. Not at 12 feet and not with the experience I have of shooting a thousand rounds through my similar LC9.

Lol I just tried to beat everyone to the punch and not be an *** at the same time ;-)

How crowded was Four Seasons on Saturday?

Given how bad the trigger on my LC9 was I am surprised you would have more trouble with the BG. I have not shot one yet myself, so cannot compare the two, but compared to every other pistol I have shot, I couldn't hit anything with my LC9.

BFM - Good guess on the Four Seasons! Ha! Funny, I am in the western part of the state and rarely get there but I was visiting my mom in Newton so I took the little jaunt north. Pretty darn crowded (as usual).

I actually shoot my LC9 pretty well given the trigger. I am a DA revolver guy so the triggers on these guns don't really freak me out.

BFM - Good guess on the Four Seasons! Ha! Funny,

Price gave it away. Was thinking of grabbing one myself.

Have to admit, the LC9 was one of the few pistols I sold. The trigger was that bad and most of the after market parts did not seem a big help. I also already had a PPS that Greg Derr did a trigger job on and it is now one of the most accurate 9mm I have.

I am glad you like yours and shoot it well.

It does say something though that the BG was a worse shooter.

UPDATE!!

Well, it takes a big man and a bad shooter to admit any aiming problems aforementioned in this post was due to operator error.

Yup. Back out today for another 75 rounds. The new M&P Bodyguard ran like a champ. Slowed it down, dialed it in and was getting 3" groups at about 10 feet. Perfect for what it was designed for.

By the way, 175 rounds and not a single failure. Perfect so far!

Thanks for the support!

So what was the cure??

I really don't know… I worked on really slowly squeezing the trigger. Also although it's not nearly as comfortable in managing recoil, I changed my grip a bit so that I was shooting with the pad of my finger rather than the joint. I think that's what made the most difference.

I was always taught to shoot with the pad and not the joint, makes a more consistent and controlled pull.
