M&P Sport - $619 - Pull the Trigger?

The original AR15 and M16 did not have the FA. The FA was added when the M16A1 was introduced. When the M16 was first issued the original manual said cleaning was not necessary, so no cleaning kits were issued. At the same time the propellant in the 5.56 round was changed to a less expensive powder that was dirtier and increased the cyclic fire rate above what the M16 was designed for. Those items plus the dirty, humid conditions in Vietnam caused stuck cartridges in combat. Most of the problem was resolved by simply cleaning and lubing the rifle. But the FA was added in case of combat emergency- a hot dirty full auto chamber in the middle of a firefight and a round sticks while chambering. Not a likely scenario at the range on Saturday afternoon

IMO, for today's HD or sportsman's AR which are usually cleaned, well lubed, and fed good ammo, if a round won't chamber, something is wrong with the round and you don't want to fire it anyway. Kick it out and load another one. If the second round won't chamber you may have an obstruction or other problem and you need to check the rifle.

I believe JaPes pointed out in a different thread that the scallop on the AR bolt that you can see through the ejection port is actually the original design FA. So, the Sport does have a FA, just a different one than most ARs today.

I like my Sport. It is very well fitted and finished regardless of price. With the heavy profile barrel mine is very accurate also. Because I'm an older cuss and have shot a lot of 12ga and 30-06 I don't think the recoil of the 5.56 is a problem at all, even with the carbine length gas system. I previously had a 20" barreled AR with a rifle length gas system, and I don't notice much/any difference in recoil with the Sport.
