M&P9C 1200 ROUNDS LATER.

About 6 weeks ago I bought an M&P 9C to relace a couple of GEN4 G19's that had probems. In the first couple of mags I had two fte on WWB ammo but that cleared up after that. I'm now at slightly over 1200 rounds just thought I'd follow up.
The gun has fed, fired and ejected everything I have shot through it. From the retention draw out out to 15 yards the gun will make one tight hole if I do my part. It is very comforable to wear. I bought one ofthose S&W Glaco holsters for it. Shot it benched at 25 yards to make sure my gun wasn't having accuracy problems. Nice groups, a bit to the left though. The trigger was o.k. but I went the APEX Duty/Carry kit.
It got rid of all the grit and dropped the trigger pull from 6.7 lbs. to a smooth 4.25. Night and day difference. Although I hate to admit it the job did take me two hours to do. The roll pins in my gun were very tight. In fact the rear pin was a bear to get back in. After looking at the sight options out there I went with the AmeriGlo Bowie Tacticals.
I have installed nightsights on several of my guns. Got the rear off fine but the front wasn't budging. I've had a couple of local "gunsmiths" mar my slide on a couple of guns telling me they had sight tools for the guns. Instead they actually tried to beat them on. One actually destroyed a front Trijicon sight for me. After some "discussion" he replaced it.
So I sent my gun to NOVAKS to have them do the installation. The guys are pro's and it's no more expensive than some of the locals charge. They say turn around time is a week. Once I've got my nightsights with the APEX Defense/Carry set up the gun will be just about perfect for warm weather ccw. Bought a full sized mag with a sleeve for a back up mag. It's very comfortable in the Galco IWB holster by the way.

Excellent, thanks for the write up. I picked up a MP9c yesterday and am at 200 round down range. I use a couple of the mags from my FS mp9 and the 3 mags for the compact. That gives me a lot of rounds on hand to blast through!!
I shoot at 10 -20 yards and the little gun sure does great.

I have about 400 rounds through mine, without a single problem. My groups are fair at 20 yards, I'd qualify with it, put it that way. With either hand. It's the first plastic pistol I can shoot, and consequently like, a huge step for me to be at.

I have a new M&P 9c (100 rounds) and this sounds like exactly what it needs. I've never done any work on a gun other than field strip and clean, but I'm mechanically handy and competent, and I know about the instructional videos, so should I install the kit myself? Do I need any special tools? Thanks for all the info in your post and any help.

I just put the Apex kit in my MP 45. Im not going to put one in my 9c. Not enough difference.

Thank you for the write up. I'm on to about 400-500 or so with mine and I simply cannot get over how much I like shooting that 9c. I figured it would only see work as my carry gun and I would obviously practice with it, but it gets way more range time that just that. I'm working to actually shoot some IDPA with it; I haven't shot a gun I've enjoyed as much in a long time. I've kept all my M&Ps box stock and would like to shoot one with the Apex in it just to see what kind of difference it makes.

If anybody is on the fence about one of the M&P compacts, don't be! They are fantastic little guns; I traded my G26 for one and couldn't be happier!

I love mine too. I have the DCAEK and Trijicon night sights. Only issues I had were about 4 light primer strikes. The striker channel was filthy and since it's been cleaned, it's been perfect. I just ordered a CB Supertuck to carry mine.

WHAT'S THE LIMIT?

YOU SAY YOU HAVE FIRED 1200 ROUNDS DOWNRANGE. WHAT IS THE GOING CONCENSUS FOR WHEN A BARREL HAS HAD ENOUGH AND SHOULD BE REPLACED?

IS THERE A NUMBER OR IS THE WEAR ON THE RIFLING THE WAY TO DECIDE?

Most quality modern firearms will outlive their owners. Barrels should be able to see 20, 30 or 40,000 rounds before really showing even the smallest signs of wear. Accuracy will decline rapidly once if you can ever shoot a barrel out and you'll be able to tell but again, most shooters won't ever get close to doing that. Anymore, 1000 rounds is just starting to get it broken in!

The only thing you really need is a Glock tool or the proper sized punch to do the whole job. Follow the video's at APEX Tactical and you'll do just fine. I had to rerun the video's in a couple of spots to look at exactly how Randy was doing things. Just be patient and expect it to take a few tries to get some things right. Plan on spending some time with it. You should be fine.
