I found this Model 10-5 at a local pawn shop about a week ago but it took me a week to negotiate a price I wanted to pay. I tried to convince the manager that it wasn't worth much because of some condition issues, a broken firing pin and trashed grips. We finally agreed on $220 and I had the parts to fix it up on hand. It cleaned up pretty well with a few rust spots and holster wear but no scratches. I liked it because of the 5" barrel. I figure about 1970 issue.
I have seen better but I have seen a lot worse too. Anybody here a M10 fan?

Looks like a great deal for $220. Certainly lots of Model 10 fans...S&W's best-selling model...and count me among them. I gravitate toward the snubbies, but there is something about the 5" 10s that's pretty cool.

I wouldn't have hesitated at $220--what was the asking price you negotiated down from?

The two on the top left are my 3" 10-4 and below that is my 10-5 4".

So, yep, I like me some model 10's!

The shop was at $300 firm and said they would have the hammer nose replaced. I tried 3 times to make a deal before they gave in some. The only other revolver they had was a M&P, with the "S" serial number I figured about 1949 and they want $800 for it and it had some issues too. One of the clerks showed me the price guide but thought mine was a 1905 4th change and was worth $800. I had to set him straight and the book shows $165 in 80% conditions. I find most of the time they don't have any idea what they buy or sell. I am happy with this one.

this model 10-5 3" ex Aussie police gun is my favorite SW revolver. I added the crimson trace LG-105 laser grips to help my aging eyes.

Congratulations on the purchase and a 5 inch gun on top of it as the 6 and 4 inch are way more common.

I have had a 4in model since 1987. Cool 5in bbl ! You need to refresh it's like for 158gr lead rounds. Enjoy.
