My 27-2 ... after firing one cylinder of 38 sp today ... the cylinder would not close ... the spring operated catch under the barrel that is supposed to slip into the end of the ejector rod ... seems to be too far to the rear ... and the ejector rod cannot push the spring loaded keeper out of the way ... now ... this is very technical description ... no laughing allowed ... anyway ... the spring loaded keeper has a longitudinal pin that is extending out a 1/4" beyond the underlug face ... have not really noticed if this is new ... transverse pin is in place and centered ... the keeper moves easily when pushed with a que tip ... so ... what is up? I don't shoot 357's in this revolver ... just 38 sp's ... and I have fired maybe on box on 38's since I got the revolver back from S&W for a general service call ... they fixed end shake ... and replaced arm ... and said it was fine ... long story ... probably short answer ... thanks ... Hello,

I think that during the cleaning process the ejector rod has become partially unscrewed. Check and see if it loose before stressing out further. This is a left hand thread.

Thanks ... yes I actually checked that at the range ... but it seems to be tight

More complicated I guess ... I can't really see anything wrong with the spring keeper under the bbl to catch the ejector rod ... after lubricating the ejector rod internal plunger ... I could get the cylinder to close ... but the cylinder would not rotate ... seems the arm is not extending ... to engage the cyliner ... somehow tied to the thumb release for the cylinder ... best I can tell ... the arm was replaced by S&W ... they said oversized one used ... I suppose I need to open up the side plate and have a look ... the good news ... is I am spending time with my 3-1/2 27-2 ... and I sure like it ... better if it worked! John
