I've noticed in some of the threads about the 442/642's that people are seeing a mark from the trigger on the back of the trigger guard. Does anyone why this is happening. I have it on my 442.

I have both a 442 & 642 and do not have it yet? HOw many rounds thru the gun before this shows up?

I would say it was about 100 rounds of regular and +p before I looked, after seeing the first post. The line is just on the left side behind the trigger not two lines and for sure it's because the trigger is hitting. Yet if you hold the trigger in the pulled position you can see light between the trigger and the back of the trigger guard?

I posted this before. I sent my 642-1 to S&W to get this problem fixed. I spoke with them yesterday. They fixed the trigger hitting the trigger guard under waranty. They are now doing the J-frame trigger enhancement for $89. I should have it back in a couple of weeks. I will let you know how it turns out.

dlstewart01: Be sure to let us know about that J frame trigger job. I've heard good news about the Master Revolver Action Package and would like to hear if the trigger job is the same.

I have it on my 442-2, but the gun shoots fine and the marks don't bother me.

Is it a problem that needs to be remedied by sending the gun back to S&W, or is it just a cosmetic thing?

Yeah...I have two marks on the inside of the rear area of the trigger guard of my 642-1. It fires perfectly and I'd never send it back to S&W for repairs...any repairs! It's 642-1, which means no lock...if S&W has any problem fixing the gun for whatever reason, whether cosmetic or function, they have the right to replace it with a new firearm...which means a lock version. I'm very happy with the slight blemish and no lock!

I just take it as normal wear and tear.
Just like the front of the cylinder and forcing cone area getting dirty and discolored from shooting or the drag line on the cylinder.

Maybe touch it up with a cotton swab and a little B/C Aluminum Black (on a 442) ?

Took my 442 to a gunsmith yesterday. He stated that the trigger itself is flexing and hitting on the back of the trigger guard. He didn't think it was anything to be concerned about so onward and upward.

What polish do you guys think S&W uses to smooth up the back of the trigger?
